I've been using for a few months an app that sends me daily digests of information *curated by myself*.

It just got better: I can now receive a digests of tweets liked by people I pick. Curation 2.0

(Thread of how it works, 1/N)
2/ I use it to automate repetitive "fetching information" tasks.
It has three advantages:
– I avoid having to manually open multiple websites or apps
– It's fast
– It prevents me from wasting time "mindlessly scrolling": it's an email, and once it finished, I can move on.
3/ Here is the website: mailbrew.com/?aff=DellAnnaL…
(affiliate link, but I've been a paying user for months, and I just love the product for how much time it saves me).

At the beginning I used it "just" to receive a daily email with the top tweets from a few Twitter lists.
4/ This is what I was doing.

But recently, they added more features.
5/ For example, they added a "crypto & stocks portfolio" feature where you can get a daily digest of your portfolio's movement.

The advantage: it's not in your trading app, so you're not tempted to spend time or money on new trades.
6/ Now, they also added a "Liked by" option. You can select a group of Twitter accounts, and receive a digest of the tweets they liked. I have a specific Twitter list set up for that, with 3 high-signal accounts that like a few tweets a day. It surfaces great stuff.
7/ I also have a "Searches" daily digest, where I get a daily email with new Twitter results for queries with the titles of my books. So I know when people are talking about my work. Like Google Alerts, but better (for I can directly engage with the reviewers).
8/ Here are some of the "digest sources" ImageImage
9/ I would advice everyone who feels he or she spends too much time on Twitter to give a shot to the app. I very seldomly recommend products but this one is just that good. Plus, @linuz90 and @frankdilo ship new features fast.

IS THE AUTISM SPECTRUM TWO-TAILED?

The autism spectrum is usually described as single-tailed, as in the picture below.

But what if there were a tail also on the left side?

Thread, 1/N
2/ I believe that the actual spectrum of autism-related conditions is actually closer to this chart.

What lies on the left side?
3/ First, we must understand what's the horizontal axis.

(Disclaimer: I'm no medical professional and this is just a hypothesis – though one worth exploring, IMHO.)

NEW ROAM BOOK ON MANAGEMENT!

I just published it: gumroad.com/l/roambook

Here's what's inside:
(thread, 1/N) #rbook #roamcult
2/ First of all, this is a Roam Book (rBook). It is a new format that integrates with your notes, allows for non-linear exploration of its contents, and more. You can read more about it on roam-books.com

It runs on @roamresearch.

3/ Thanks to requests from many readers, this book is also available in Obsidian Book format (@obsdmd), with a couple less functionalities.

Just check the book page linked above and keep reading to find the information regarding the Obsidian version.

A quick overview of #ergodicity, using plain language and down-to-earth examples.

A talk on Saturday the 13th of March.
Attendance is free but registration is mandatory: gum.co/ergodicitytalk
The idea is to make the concept as accessible at possible, so I won’t use any maths beyond 3rd grade, and will focus on examples not from investing but from everyone’s life.
Attendance is FREE even though it’s a Gumroad link.

It’s a Gumroad link because I offer a bundle “talk + book”, but if you want to just hear me the talk, you can register for free. I’m experimenting to see if this format is sustainable.

TROLLEY PROBLEMS We spend too much time on deciding which way to pull the lever, and not nearly enough time on slowing trolleys down and asking ourselves "why are there people bound to the tracks"?

Thread with examples, 1/N
2/ One example: should Trump be banned? Was the election stolen?

These are lever questions.

The trolley question is: how come fraud and/or "changing the rules at the last minute" are plausible?
3/ It's important to focus on trolley questions, because pulling a lever doesn't stop the trolley – it will keep being a problem in the future.

I’ve personally consulted for a pharma company on biological contamination due to behavioral mistakes (though at lower security levels than the labs involved here) and, based on my experience, I find very plausible that one day a rushed or tired employee makes a misstep.
Of course, I would like to believe that after SARS, protocols for way stronger.

But I also believe that virological labs will have leaks again, eventually. Not if, but when.

And dismissing this risk is, well, very risky.

THOUGHTS ON HERD IMMUNITY

A WSJ piece claims the US might achieve herd immunity by April (pic below).

Does the claim make sense?

A thread, 1/N
2/ First of all, there are excellent arguments by @EricTopol here.

But let’s talk more in detail about herd immunity from a statistical point of view.

3/ Virus and vaccinations are NOT homogenous. The map below shows that the virus spreads in clusters.

We cannot just average it all over the country. Doing so is detached from reality.
