Perceptions of #inequality: π²π½π§π·πΊπΈπΏπ¦
A report from @AFD_France lays out one of the biggest problems for people interested in reducing #inequalities: Inaccurate public #perception of the problem.
(1/x)
βThe research finds that individuals have a relatively accurate perception of #poverty, but they substantially overestimate the prevalence of #affluence."
This research shows that people struggle to understand the extent and the depth of the #economic gulfs between us.

Public #perception is critical to solving social issues in #democracies, even ones captured by large state and corporate interests.
But perception is just that - what we see.

#Communicators - in the #climate field, #inequality debates, social justice movements, etc - start at a disadvantage of needing to reverse the negative inertia of existing #narratives and start their own.
This is what motivates me in my work.
