#BroochWarfare So there's a current tempest in a teapot (planted by someone royal, I will bet you) involving the Duchess of Sussex wearing earrings gifted from Saudi Arabia. thetimes.co.uk/article/meghan…
The big fly in the accusatory ointment is, the earrings aren't hers. They belong to the Crown, and were LOANED to her. Further, they weren't from anyone in particular, just the Saudi royal family. people.com/royals/meghan-…
I suspect she was set up by QE's dresser, Angela Kelly, the same person who refused to release Meghan's wedding tiara so that Meghan could figure out her hairdo, and made THAT into a scandal. (I sense a trend.) marieclaire.co.uk/fashion/meghan…
So anyway, yeah. Scandal involving royal Saudi gifts. Y'know who wears those all the time?
Everybody.
King Faisal, back in the day, gave QE a necklace and she's worn it for ages.
She's loaned it out, too. LOANING OUT JEWELRY IS PRETTY COMMON.
If we wanna get pissy about it, QE also accepted a set of diamonds from South Africa on her 21st birthday, you know, back when Apartheid was still raging.
BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.
The Williamson Diamond, the light pink monster in the middle of that brooch, was given to QE in 1947, by a Canadian dude named Williamson who owned a mine in Tanzania. Might as well call it slave labor back then.
There's also the entirety of the Cullinans, which Britain fought a war with the Netherlands to get hold of the mines, then kind of stole it when it was left in a London bank for a while.
There's also the aquamarine parure, a gift from Brazil for her marriage, at which time mining conditions there were about slave labor, too.
There are also the Cambridge Emeralds, which were originally won in a 'lottery' by some ancestors, and y'know, gambling is one hell of a way to cover up theft. What lottery has a couple hundred carats of emeralds as a prize??
And then we have the Grand Vladmir Tiara. Which was bought from a distant relative after the Russian Revolution, when they washed up penniless in London begging for help. There's been speculation about that deal since it happened. (Queen Mary made the deal.)
Camilla went to Saudi Arabia a couple times and got piles of swag - estimates for the ruby necklaces are $3mil each - and there was a minor scandal over it, and lots of questions about royal gifts.
Let's not forget Sophie Wessex. She accepted a convertible necklace-tiara from Bahrain, you know, where torture and sex slavery run rampant. The public complained, but she wears it anyway. The Palace didn't make a peep.
Oh, and what about Kate?
Kate wears a lot of the sapphire suite that Princess Diana owned.
It was a wedding gift to Diana, FROM SAUDI ROYALS.
Same goes for this piece. It's been re-worked but was Saudi in origin.
And Kate got a suite of jewels from Saudi Arabia for her wedding, IIRC looked like little flowers, but I can't find a photo of it now.
Anyway, in conclusion, those who live in glass palaces should keep their snide commentary to themselves.
This is another attack on Meghan, this one probably timed to get ahead of the interview coming out this weekend. I've lost a lot of respect for the royal family in the last few years and it's at a nadir after this bit of hypocrisy.
Have something nice and not Saudi. The end.
PS: There's also this, and I'll bet you it's in the Vault. Along with a lot of other stuff that was gotten the same way. bbc.co.uk/news/resources…

Oh. OH! The Narcan Saga, part the next. (New folks, I'm a pain patient on... a significant amount of narcotics.) I'm at the pain clinic today, cruising my record for inaccuracies, and what do my wondering eyes behold? A Narcan prescription. That I do not have in hand.
So the PA, I'm like, 'uh, what's with the Narcan?' and she's like 'we prescribe it to all patients on a major drug load, just to be safe, not meant as an insult, etc' and I explained no, I was in favor, I had just never gotten the last Rx. So she re-sent it.
TURNS OUT JACK THE FUCKHEAD PHARMACIST NEVER GAVE IT TO ME, KNOWING DAMN WELL HOW MANY DRUGS I'M ON.
Hub went to get it today? HE DOESN'T HAVE ANY IN STOCK.
Okay, fuck it, we all need to chill out more than we need a 24 hour poll. Looks like the emeralds are winning (41%) and I know I have a bunch of emerald fans out there, so here we go. #JewelWatch
Chopard, Nunn, and the bottom two are Yue. A garden to wear.
The focal points are the fire opal monarchs leaving the chrysaliseseseses, but the emeralds in the posts of the earrings and loop of the pendant are nice. (Smirti)
That remains one of my favorite suites of all time.
Anyway.
Emeralds and aquamarines. From Boghossian. Never been able to decide if I like them or not, but they're nice stones.
All right then! #StoryTime Once upon a time in my misspent youth, I was the purchasing and accounts payable (did the bills) for an all in one manufacturing/sales/shipping facility.
That included buying parts for the factory, which ran Goss presses to make boxes.
Oh, excuse me, CORRUGATED CONTAINERS. (This was also the place where the owner loved me and the office manager hated me. Good times.)
Right, so I'm doing the daily grind, and the dude who runs the factory puts in a PO for a part for one of the presses.
Purchase orders always had all kinds of information attached to them, but there was a part number, so I just called up our guy at Goss and was like "Hey, I need a number seventy-five double Q" and he was "sure, that'll be $300."
LET US HAVE AN EDUCATIONAL MOMENT. #NailFiles See the white spot on the edge of this nail? That’s not a light reflection. Most of my nails have them.
For new folks, my hands have crap circulation and I have a lot of infected cuticles and the occasional trip to the wound clinic. My toenails are worse. I’ll spare you the details. So I saw this and was “oh fuck”.
Got on the internet, started researching. Causes were like doom, gloom, impending death, impending amputation (seriously), deadly nutrient deficiencies, and at the bottom of the list as an afterthought, USE OF ACETONE IN NAIL PRODUCTS.
