Earlier this week, I entered into an interesting discussion on a supposed series of visions and devotions, propagated by a 'seer' named Maria Divine Mercy.
The Church in Ireland and even authorities abroad have condemned the messages as being inconsistent with Catholic doctrine.
Yet, people continue to promote, follow, and practice the visions and devotions associated with MDM: prayers, "seals", medals, and so forth.
The excuses often given are that the Pope is not the Pope, the bishops have lost their authority, and that solely Christ and Mary...
...(by means of the questionable visionary) are able to provide the truth.
Even for non-believing peoples, this should seem very questionable, and yet followers of the Irish 'seer', MDM, are emphatic that they alone know the truth.
After reading sources from bishops and even...
...Rome on MDM, other apparitions, and the canonical process to discern truth from falsehood, I came across an intriguing account of an apathetic individual finding MDM, converting to the Catholic Faith, but then suffering neurosis and even demonic attacks due to her fixation...
...with MDM.
While this is only a single account, it seems to reflect well the obsession that devotees of these condemned visions tend to develop. I saw similar developments with followers of Necedah, Bayside, and other questionable movements.
In the aforementioned discussion on FB, I also found some other resources, which I hope will prove helpful to anyone searching for information on #MariaDivineMercy.
Firstly, the Archbishop of Dublin condemned the messages, which we can find here:
There were a few other resources that helped to outline the history of apparitions, the Church's response to them, and even an analysis (using the Church's instruments) to review the MDM case:
I know that this movement is popular with people in #Ireland, the #Philippines, and beyond, but I would prayerfully ask people of good will to review these resources and similar works to appropriately discern the truth of this case and the importance of trusting the Church.
