Maps are created using average monthly light emissions.

What happens in #OpenWaters is difficult to monitor.
Yet, here you clearly see the #LightPollution (likely many⛴️) JUST outside the #TerritorialWaters of #Ecuador and #Peru in 2019

#YasuniITT was an issue of debate in #Ecuador from 2010 to 2015 that would have preserved #Biodiversity in the ITT block of #YasuniNationalPark.

In 2013, it was abandoned and #OilAndGas companies began #OilExtraction there in 2016.

This is a zoomed-out view of light pollution across #YasuniNationalPark in the same timeframe.

The dots towards the right of the GIF correspond with the location of the ITT Block.

Even though these are very depressing images of how quickly we are #DestroyingNature, tools and technologies like these with #SatelliteImages and #RemoteSensing allow us to better track illegal activities and help promote #Conservation.

Estos mapas se crean a base del promedio mensual de luz emitida.
