#SCOTUS grants one new case this morning: Thompson v. Clark (20-659), raising questions about when a federal 1983 lawsuit can be brought.

Only one decision from #SCOTUS this morning, in Uzuegbunam v. Preczewski. Thomas writes for the 8-1 court, with Roberts dissenting. supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf…
The Supreme Court holds, 8-1, that a request for nominal damages is enough to keep a case alive when the offending policy has been changed.
Here is Thomas's conclusion for the Court, and then a key part of Roberts's dissent. ImageImage

Watching the RENT 25th anniversary event. 🥺
I guess I needed to cry tonight. ❤️
Will never forget going into the Nederlander in last-minute cancelation seats to see RENT on a day trip to NYC w @ATLJono in late ‘96. Will never forget the moment the oxygen left the room as the first notes of “One Song Glory” began. Will never forget the feeling of that day. 💖

One or more #SCOTUS opinions in argued cases coming this morning, starting in 5 minutes.
In today’s first opinion, in US Fish and Wildlife Service v. Sierra Club, #SCOTUS limits FOIA by broadly reading an exception to the public records law. 7-2 opinion by Barrett. Breyer, joined by Sotomayor, dissents. supremecourt.gov/opinions/20pdf…
The final #SCOTUS decision today makes deporting certain undocumented immigrants easier by ruling that the immigrant and not the govt bears the burden of proving that they have not been convicted of a crime that prevents “cancellation of removal.” The 5-3 opinion is by Gorsuch.

They’re just doing whatever the hell they want, and I love it? #GoldenGlobes
We had our first, “I’m sorry. You’re on mute,” of the night.
Daniel Kaluuya was incredible in this. I did love this piece, however, about the ages of the actors in biopics like this: mashable.com/article/judas-…

I was standing in Dupont Circle on Super Tuesday, waiting on a friend, when I read the NYT story about a lawyer who had a college-aged child in Manhattan. I called another friend, and was like, “So, we’re past containment, right?”
This weekend, a year ago, I was doing my “stock-up shopping” that really hit DC in the weeks that followed — mainly because I needed to stock up on a lot because I didn’t really spend much time at home during the day before all of this.
A friend told me to have enough for two weeks, in case I got sick and needed to stay home or if there was an outbreak in my area and I wanted to not need to go to the grocery store during that time.
