this seems like an impressively fair and well-intentioned response, but i also absolutely believe the democrats could and would have stamped this story out long before it got this far if they had any serious national ambitions for cuomo
look at the replies. the base was all geared up to run the exact same playbook they used for joe biden (timing, just kissing, character witnesses, trump is worse, etc) but the leadership just let him hang. the minute SNL got to joke about it you knew he was done
for biden they had state prosecutors investigate *his accuser* and had journos interviewing her former landlord for dirt. the personnel records stayed sealed and there was none of this independent inquiry stuff. a fair investigation means the party doesnt think cuomo is worth it
maybe the investigators will come back and say they didnt find anything, idk. but its been made pretty clear that if the democrats actually thought the truth might hurt party interests they wouldnt risk finding out

we love it when our politicians talk about a strong dollar because we're greedy little pigs that want nothing more out of the world than cheap foreign consumer goods and then we cry when nobody will buy our exports
we literally tell the asians theyre cheating when they keep their exchange rates artificially low instead of artificially high. japan signed a treaty agreeing to stop so we'd shut up and then we both got clobbered by china because theyre the first country that wouldnt roll over

fairly clear now that the massive budget cuts were supposed to bankrupt the NPS so they’d have an excuse to privatize it. naturally it didnt work because the park service has spent decades evolving a superhuman ability to run on peanuts but i guess they’re just gonna try anyway
the NPS generated over $30 billion in additional economic activity in 2017, often in otherwise neglected rural communities. its federal budget is less than a tenth of that and shrinks every year. also they’re assigned to protect over 80 million acres of wilderness
point being, this isnt a modernity vs natural beauty thing or even a profit vs ecology thing. its a bunch of free market ideologues seeing a federal agency provide a social good far more efficiently than a private company could and resolving to wipe it from the face of the earth

so does nobody stop and think “hmm maybe the reason obama and zuckerberg and friedman love UBI is because it’s designed to relocate working class discontent to the 3rd world and keep capitalism on life support long enough to belch out the last ton of co2 that destroys the earth”
turns out i was just pretending to think that all value is derived from labor, actually if the bourgeoisie will give me a cut of what they looted from the third world that’s fine

apparently a bunch of people genuinely believe that once americans found out what was going on in birmingham in 1963 they were horrified by it. they weren’t. they overwhelmingly said they thought the blacks deserved it.
the idea that MLK won by sitting back and waiting for moderates to become outraged by what they saw on tv was written into the history books by white moderates after his death to ensure that no one could repeat his success.
MLK knew that he couldn’t win that way. he didn’t want moderates to love him, he wanted them to fear what might happen if they didn’t come to the table. and white america hated him for it. in 1966 gallup found that 63% of all americans had a negative view of king.

lol buddy you chose the wrong book to pretend to have read
while shirer criticizes the KPD he never argues that they were mistaken in fighting the nazis in the streets. to the contrary he describes the street battles as a huge embarrassment for the nazi party that frightened their wealthy backers and contributed to the purge of the SA
he does, however, have quite a lot to say about the economics of the nazi policy. he tears into the man who coined the term "national socialism" as a crank who had no idea what socialism was, and points to hitler's ridiculous personal definitions of "socialism"

every single photo of kim jong un from the summit makes it look like he spent months preparing himself because he thought trump was doing some nixon thing where he pretended to be unstable but then kim got there and is still in shock that he’s actually just that much of an idiot
imagine you and your father and grandfather spent their lives living in fear of the united states, always questioning what was truth and what was spun by the seemingly-omnipotent empire, and then you finally get to the table and the whole thing is run by an actual dipshit
