@pressgazette@EditorsUK Reacting to #Megan’s comments against the British media the UK's Society of @EditorsUK insisted:
"The UK media is not bigoted and will not be swayed from its vital role holding the rich and powerful to account following the attack on the press by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex"
@pressgazette@EditorsUK This is a preposterous claim. The UK’s mainstream media is notoriously bigoted and racist.
For decades now sections of the British press have led an unrelenting campaign of vilification against Immigrants, asylum-seekers and refugees.
@pressgazette@EditorsUK In 2015 researchers at Cardiff University found that “Britain’s right-wing media was uniquely aggressive in its campaigns against refugees and migrants” compared with Europe.
@pressgazette@EditorsUK An industry which allows racist headlines which include “Illegal migrants flood in”, “Migrant chaos all summer”, “Asylum seekers ferried around in stretch limo”, “Migrants rob young Britons of jobs”, “500,000 migrants get social housing” cannot claim it is “not bigoted.”
@pressgazette@EditorsUK The UK media is also rotten with Islamophobia. A major study by the @MuslimCouncil of Britain in 2019 of 10,000 news articles identified “serious problems” as to how the UK media reports Islam and Muslims.
@pressgazette@EditorsUK@MuslimCouncil The study found 59% of the articles it studied associated Muslims with negative behaviour (The Mail on Sunday led the industry with 78%) while more than a third “misrepresented or made generalisations” about the community.
@pressgazette@EditorsUK@MuslimCouncil And the UK mainstream media, far from “holding the rich and powerful to account” is largely owned by the rich and powerful and serves the interests of the rich and powerful.
@pressgazette@EditorsUK@MuslimCouncil The #Levensoninquiry exposed the priorities of the UK media and how it operated and “holding the rich and powerful to account” wasn't very high on the agenda of most of the UK's media.
@pressgazette@EditorsUK@MuslimCouncil Hacking the mobiles and computers of 5,800 individuals including the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler and Jessica Chapman, the parents of murdered schoolgirls Holly Wells and the families those who lost relatives in the 7/7 bombings didn't hold “the rich and powerful to account”
@pressgazette@EditorsUK@MuslimCouncil Contrary to the claims of the Society of @EditorsUK, the UK mainstream media is a sewer of bigotry and reaction.
Could it be that after years of peddling lies and distortions and racist filth to its readers, the Society of Editors have come to believe their own propaganda?

Despite a laughable conclusion that insists we need the "ambition and optimism" of the filthy rich for "our" economy "to take flight again", the preamble to @thesundaytimes#richlist 2020 understands that the greed of the super-rich is indefensible:
Commentators soon highlighted that @richardbranson had paid no personal tax in the UK for 14 years. But the largely unnoticed point is that over the past seven months he had enjoyed a windfall of well over £500m from the stock market float & soaring share price of @virgingalactic
