It usually takes 5-10 minutes or so to walk from DNC to RNC HQ. It took the pipe bomb courier about 23 min, iirc.

That doesn't match walking directly.

It precisely fits walking DNC-> Folger Park ~8pm, get bomb#2 -> RNC by 8:13.

It also explains why the courier walked back up the alley at 8:17 - they were headed back to their car.

What remains to be determined: what made them choose the path they took? Has anyone local mapped out if there are there surveillance cameras along the local streets?

One way to do this - at least to find cameras that have IR night vision - would be to walk the streets at night and record video on a camera without an IR cut filter (i.e. the front-facing cameras on cell phones would work) to detect point sources of IR on houses/poles/etc.

And a good way to determine if someone did reconnaissance to figure out what streets to avoid would be to check and see if someone DID walk the streets at night, seeming to record the houses, probably within the 1-2 weeks prior to the event.

But I find it extremely odd if the only surveillance footage that exists is what has been released thus far - at minimum, I'd expect 1-2 more passes on the RNC's alleyway camera, one walking towards and the other away...

and logically you'd anticipate them taking the least populated route - and to match the footage, I'd assume that would be the first one here - although the video stops before you can tell if they went L/R on leaving the DNC.

but... if they went left, there should certainly be at least one more video capture from the front of the DNC; it doesn't make sense as to why they would walk D -> First-> C (and if they did, where's the clip from the first Capitol Hill Club pass?) Are there cams on 2nd?

But, anyway: that leaves out the initial failed approach, where the suspect turns around and heads back north before reaching the DNC. Again, you'd anticipate footage of the walk down Canal St. from the main entrance...

But if any locals are willing to take a nighttime walk to see if they can use their phone to find any camera/video doorbell locations in the area generally defined by this map, (and maybe measuring some of the landmarks in the known videos), that could help fill in some gaps.

P.S. I worked on the design of a surveillance system that could do this kind of tracking automatically, so yeah, I've spent a lot of time thinking through these things :)
