Ok so, #NotAllMen - just the ones who murder, the ones who rape (and I don’t just mean trench-coat clad strangers in dark alleys, I also mean your friend who knew his girlfriend was too drunk to say yes or no, or that guy who pressured her into sex because he bought dinner) [1]
The incels, the domestic abusers (a concerning number of whom are in the police force), the molesters, the gropers, the grabbers, the starers, the ones who think following a lone woman off public transport is the start of an epic romance, the slut-shamers [2]
The victim blamers, the ones who make rape jokes, the ones who let rape jokes slide, the ones who think 'it's not that deep', the ones who look the other way because it’s 'none of my business', the ones who shout from cars, the ones who think catcalling is a compliment, [3]
The ones who ‘don’t want to have this conversation right now', the ones who think this discussion is too political, the flashers, the ones who send unsolicited dick pics, the ones who tell women to smile, the ones who laugh at women and girls going places in groups, [4]
The ones who try to get women drunk so they’re less likely to put up a fight, the ones who don’t do that, but don’t see a problem with it, the ones who say 'boys will be boys', like sexual violence is just part of growing up, the ones who don’t say anything, [5]
The ones who are more upset about the issue being raised than about the issue itself, the ones who say or think a woman they hate deserves to be raped or killed, the ones who think 'no' is the start of a negotiation, the ones who touch women unnecessarily in public...[6]
...as if it’s normal and necessary to put your hand on her back to move past, even though you’d never touch a man like that, the ones who make light of the situation be a use they feel uncomfortable discussing something that is actually a matter of life or death, [7]
The ones who bring up false accusations to discredit all women (even though men are far more likely to be raped themselves than to be falsely accused), the ones who take pride in sexual 'conquests', the ones who put girls against each other for their own gain, [8]
The ones who say feminism has gone too far, even though #SarahEverard couldn’t even walk home safely, the ones who think feminism means they can hit girls (according to domestic violence stats, that’s already happening), the ones who make period comments, [9]
The ones who refuse to take any responsibility for contraception, the ones who think 'blue balls' are a medical condition, the ones who think stalking/persistence in the face of clear disinterest is a love language, the ones who say it’s 'just being friendly', [10]
The ones who tailgate women on the motorway, the ones who talk about girls being 'legal', the ones who’ve shared nudes intended only for them, the ones who secretly remove condoms, the ones who talk about the 'friend zone' as if they’re owed sex, [11]
The ones who treat girls like they’re part of a game, the ones who graphically discuss female bodies with their friends, the ones who like girls smaller than them because they’re easier to overpower, the ones who say we are overreacting, [12]
The ones who complain on #iwd that there’s no international men's day (plot twist: there is), the ones who want a girl to be 'tight', even though that means she’s not into it/not ready, the ones who accuse women of being hysterical for expressing anger or distress, [13]
The ones who only bring up male victims/survivors of sexual violence as a 'gotcha' moment, (even though 93% of perpetrators of sexual violence against men are men) but don’t care about them any other time, the ones who try and avoid this conversation, [14]
The ones who let other men get away with any of these behaviours, the ones who rolled their eyes at this thread, and finally the ones who interrupt a necessary conversation about lived experiences to say 'not all men'. No, not all men. But probably you. [15]
