I think I need to explain what Meghan Markle meant when she said this. I shouldn't, but apparently I must.

"When I joined that family, that was the last time, until we came here, that I saw my passport, my driver's licence [license], my keys. All that gets turned over." /1

Twist it however you want, but the moment she married Harry, she didn't have access to all of the things that all American women just take for granted in our daily lives. /2

The minute Meghan Markle became Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, someone else took possession of her *United States passport* to make travel arrangements for her. She couldn't go to a website to make arrangements for herself. /3

Not a big deal, you say. Security reasons!

Let's let go of all the things that having a driver's license, a passport, and keys gives you to actually, literally drive away. /4

That wasn't the issue here.

The problem was that if she used any of those things to leave her home, the staffers at some Palace would leak it to the press, who would then accuse her of doing X or X egregious thing. /5

But she hadn't actually left her house in months. /6

She wasn't angry at the "family member" who had visited her and told her to "lay low" because she was "everywhere." /7

The real issue was that every single time she left the house, the Palace sources tipped off the media that she was leaving the house. /8

Because they had her keys, her ID, her passport, she couldn't do anything without Palace sources knowing about it, and they (under control of William or Charles) leaked everything. /9

*THAT* is the issue here.

She had access to resources, but they were under the control of two tyrants. /10

(I wrote this piss drunk. I'm pretty impressed with myself today. I'd smile if I didn't have a crushing headache.)
