#TodayInZLHRHistory; On 15 March 2011, @PoliceZimbabwe raided the offices of @crisiscoalition in search of subversive material & also proceeded to mount another search at the residence of CiZC's Director, MacDonald Lewanika.
ZRP members, who were armed with a search warrant signed by Chief Superintendent Peter Magwenzi said they were looking for anything subversive such as T-shirts, documents & fliers or anything incriminating.
ZRP members who included Detective Assistant Inspector Makombe Morgan & one identified as Justen confiscated some copies of the Civil Society Monitoring Mechanism reports & the Legal Monitor among other material.
In Hwange in Matabeleland North province, our lawyer Prisca Dube has served notices of intention to sue @PoliceZimbabwe on behalf of 2 women Twaboni Nyoni & Zulani Mudenda claiming damages for pain & suffering & for medical expenses.
The damages are arising as a result of unlawful conduct of some ZRP members who recklessly & indiscriminately fired shots at them in 2020 during a police raid on alleged illegal coke vendors in Madumabisa Village 2 in Hwange in Matabeleland North province.
As a result of the shooting, Nyoni sustained injuries on one of her breasts & can no longer breastfeed her 3 month-old son on that particular breast.
#TodayInZLHRHistory; In our pre-referendum statement issued on 15 March 2013, we stated that there was a consistent failure by COPAC to adhere to the timelines stipulated in Article VI of Global Political Agreement & the process lagged severely behind time. #ZLHRat25
We also noted the general lack of sufficient & timely information from COPAC about the referendum processes & developments & the general population was largely unaware of progress.
CSOs were largely sidelined throughout the process as they failed to independently & actively participate in the formal activities organised by COPAC.
The statement was issued after 7 ZRP officers led by Assistant Inspector Chimimba on 13 March 2007 stormed into ZCTU offices with a search warrant allowing them to search for & seize all "subversive materials" found on the premises.
2 ZLHR lawyers, who attended at ZCTU offices, found the ZRP officers going through the offices of the ZCTU, having detained ZCTU staff & visitors inside the offices. Four boxes containing some ZCTU fliers had already been seized.
Today's Story: In Masvingo, our lawyer Martin Mureri takes action by writing to @zinwawater, @MoHCCZim & @ZetdcOfficial demanding immediate restoration of water supplies at Ngomahuru Mental Hospital where patients have for more than 1 month been forced to bath in a river.
In our letter, we raised concern over the taking of both female & male patients at the same time to take a bath at Magwangwadza River located about 1km away from Ngomahuru Mental Hospital & that patients are being put to great risk of drowning or being attacked by crocodiles
We also highlighted that the right to health of patients & the community is being seriously compromised in light of the current #COVID19 pandemic & other diseases.
