Early this morning I arrived here at NASA’s Ames Research Center, one of the facilities the Biden administration is considering sheltering unaccompanied migrant children at to alleviate the humanitarian crisis of overcrowding in Border Patrol facilities.

There’s a protest scheduled for here later today. But not all advocates are opposed to this facility and the need for more HHS capacity, given ORR influx shelters get kids out of Border Patrol custody. sfchronicle.com/local/article/…

Meanwhile, FEMA has opened one emergency intake facility in Texas to relieve pressure on the Border Patrol facilities until shelters are stood up at places like here at Ames, as @Haleaziz reported.

Also new: @NomaanMerchant and @JZBleiberg report a FEMA “decompression” facility may be opened in Dallas as well to attempt to end the overcrowding on the border.

We can and should ask why the Biden admin was clearly not ready for this increase in migration of unaccompanied kids.

But we must also ask why the Trump admin did nothing to increase capacity during the transition, when *they knew* the number of kids crossing was rising.
