Remember when Ryan O'Reilly said there was something about the Buffalo Sabres that ate one's soul and destroyed one's will to take another breath and made one wish for an eternity in the fiery depths of hell?
And the Sabres gave him away for nothing because of all this slander?
If you look at every second of history following the O'Reilly trade (which, according to my notes and the best resources available, was for 2 bags of broken sticks and a mostly used stick of deodorant), it's obvious that nobody has ever been more right about anything that ROR was
The Buffalo Sabres story, at its core, is a great Faustian cautionary tale about the dangers of tanking. They literally sold their soul in 2014-15 in pursuit of a shiny object. They betrayed the spirit and the essence of the sport to get someone they thought would be the savior.
In the end, the savior they got was not the savior they wanted, and the betrayal they engaged in to get him has forever poisoned both the team and the player. There is no escape from this. The best case scenario is Eichel can gain a measure of healing and redemption elsewhere.
But for the Sabres, there is no such hope. The poison has eaten deep into the very fabric of the club. It has robbed it of the passion it has once possessed, the passion one could see in the body contortions of Hasek and the eyes of Drury. Who even remembers what it felt like?
The team is soulless, heartless, an empty shell, a howling void that freezes and kills anything that approaches it. O'Reilly felt it and knew it, though he had the spirit and the will to fight. Hall and Staal did not, and wilted immediately. Skinner had tried a bit and lost.
And now, we get to see Eichel slowly realized that he is dying inside. That he has in fact died a long time ago and is now living through a season-long Sixth Sense revelation plot twist scene. This is heart-wrenchingly sad. And incredibly evil. This franchise needs to die.
Whatever value it has as a cautionary tale is solidified by now. At this point, it is nothing but a sad little vortex into which an odd unfortunate player may fall, an Azkaban of hockey. It needs to go. Shut them down, move them to Quebec, free the fans and the players.
KILL IT!
PS. I have been a fan of the Sabres since 1989. I don't change clubs, ever, and can't just switch over to the Jets, as reason and prudency tell me I must. But I have seen suffering and death and hopelessness. I know what they look like. I see them in this team.
They need to die.

Oh... Let me ask the teenager on my avatar. I think he might have a take or two. Maybe a whole thread of them...

(thread)
Here is how it started: with the realization that SOME of the things they taught us in school were lies. This came circa 1986-87, when we were in what Americans would call middle school. We came to realize that not EVERYTHING the USSR was about was great and perfect...
For example, we were told that Soviet bureaucracy is terrible. This was the first thing that was allowed to be criticized: the bureaucracy. Which is normal for Russia, in any historical era: the belief that the system is great, it's just the lowly functionaries who implement it..

The people who just love their country and would never break the law, judging by their last names and places of residence, right, @SenRonJohnson?
BTW, make no mistake. I am not addressing @SenRonJohnson in some misbegotten hope that he may be shamed or, Darwin forbid, compelled into changing his mind. I know better than that. Sen. Johnson, as a true American politician, has no sense of shame. At all.
What @SenRonJohnson does have is:
1) a thorough understanding that the kind of people in Wisconsin who will vote for him in 2022 are extremely receptive to white supremacism and full-throated Trumpism,
2) a grudge against mainstream GOP who let him twist in the wind in 2016.

Nazarov's Panarin story appears to be unraveling. Multiple former Vityaz players are vehemently denying this ever happened. His motivation is rather transparent. His past history of wild, unsubstantiated claims is telling.
So, let's take a look at the broader issue... (thread)
The broader issue here is, funnily enough, patriotism. Or rather what different people in Russia mean when they say the word. Because Nazarov's entire public persona, one he has spent a decade and a half building, one that has landed him coaching jobs, is that of a Great Patriot.
He burst onto the scene of Russian hockey punditry back in the 2000s, when he teamed up with a former colleague of mine known for his cavalier approach to facts. Together, they produced a series of "stories" about made-up NHL scandals (anti-Russian discrimination, corruption etc)

We are now a month into Biden's Communist America. Has your Republican wife been hauled off to an abortion camp? Are your guns being melted down for gay dildos by Planned Parenthood? Is your local police officer forced to do beer runs for Black Panthers?
Share your horror stories
I am an oil industry Marine who has served his nation bravely in places like Hungary and Canada. Today, I and hundreds of millions of working Americans like me have found ourselves out of a job because of Biden's Paris deal. I am reduced to serving lattes to college professors.
I am a single mother in Iowa who loves my country, Jesus and Freedom fries with lots of ketchup, not necessarily in this order. I can't sleep at night because Biden's Communist America is getting chummy with Iran and is fixing to bomb Israel where my god was born. I cry every day

Today, Navalny is being sentenced in yet another staged trial, for defaming a WWII veteran (Navalny called everyone who made a pro-Putin propaganda video stooges and crooks, and the old man was in it). His last words are absolutely epic.
zona.media/online/2021/02…
Navalny has obtained a document that shows how much help the vet got from the govt. He was given aid 7 times over the last 4 years, in food and home products certificates totaling 11K rubles ($150).
"This is how you really care for veterans, you hypocrite scum!", Navalny screamed
He talks about the 15 people who have been hired to "investigate" this "crime", calling them leeches and idlers who were given housing in Moscow on taxpayers' dime. The money spent on the "investigation" has dwarfed the help the veteran has received over his entire life.

Call me a filthy commie but the estate tax should be 100%. All inheritance above a certain amount must be abolished. Being born into money should never entitle anyone to privilege. Nobody deserves anything for crawling out of a certain type of womb. Just look at @DonaldJTrumpJr.
And it's not a communist idea anyway. America was founded on the rejection of birthrights, on abolishing aristocracy. That was the original idea. But we are well into a new feudal age now, with landed aristocracy, whose kids never have to work in their lives.
Seriously, rich folk. Your kids have already grown up with so many advantages. They've gone to private schools (an abomination that will need to be abolished), they grew up in a nicer home, they had things other kids didn't. Would it absolutely KILL them to earn their living?
