"Don't the Democrats realize that huge tax increases will cripple the pandemic-weakened economy and crush small businesses?"
Oh, they know. The shot-callers know. It's a feature, not a bug. Fewer people working is the Dem vision of utopia and permanent power.
The Democrats have a hard inner core of ruthless left-wing ideologues, surrounded by a mushy, flabby public layer of starry-eyed nitwits who are perpetually stunned to discover the rules of basic economics. The hard core knows EXACTLY what left-wing policies do to people.
The hard core, for example, knows minimum-wage hikes kill jobs. It's what they WANT. They are deliberately blowing up the bridges that lead from poverty to gainful employment and middle-class life. They need the hated middle class isolated and cut off from reinforcements.
The mushy outer layer of the Dem Party is filled with people who honestly think minimum-wage increases will make everyone rich and only greedy Scrooge fatcats could possibly object. They really are slack-jawed with amazement when the jobs start dropping dead, every single time.
Likewise, the hard lefty core of the Dem Party knows huge tax hikes will kill struggling small businesses, kill jobs, and push more Americans into helpless welfare dependency. It's what they WANT. It's their objective. The pandemic could mean checkmate for the hated middle class.
The mushy nitwit outer layer of the Dem Party really does think "rich" people have chests of gold and jewels stuffed into treasure vaults and will happily surrender their wealth after a few more stern lectures about Paying Their Fair Share. Free stuff for everybody! Yay!
The hard core has a vision of fewer Americans working - a LOT fewer - and more universal dependence on government. A dwindling number of workers and capital-owners will pay more to finance Food Stamp Nation, helplessly outnumbered by the vast dependency class. Utopia!
The hated middle class combines healthy capitalist ambition with the numbers to be taken seriously as a political force. That has to go. Fat tax hikes will annihilate the small businesses that elevate so many to the middle class through employment and investment.
The result will be fewer jobs and less upward mobility. (Socialists think mobility is evil - the socialist elite and ruling class politicians are born to their high privileges, and everyone else should know their station.) Classes will become more static, as Marx envisioned.
It really screws up socialist central planning that so many of you deplorables move between income classes during your lives, working your way into the middle class and such. It destroys your sense of class identity and social loyalty, which makes you harder to control.
Utopia means fewer people working for artificially higher wages and paying vastly higher taxes, surrounded by a mob of lifelong dependents who keep them from getting any funny ideas about voting for their own interests or setting higher social standards.
A higher percentage of the fewer jobs that remain after Biden Democrats are finished remodeling America will be provided by big corporations, which are MUCH easier for the Left to control than swarms of small businesses scattered across the heartland. Big Money can be captured.
The mushy nitwit layer of the Dem Party mumbles anti-corporate slogans and fulminates against the Evil Rich, but the hard core knows corporate titans are tools of the Party, eager buyers of the political influence and protection against competition sold by the politburo.
The mushy layer of the Dem Party gets a lot of media attention and pop-culture love, but you should ignore them completely - they have no control over the Party agenda. The hard core rulers, the generals in the great apocalyptic War on the Middle Class, are the ones to watch.
"But don't the Democrats know that..." Yes, the hard core understands the laws of basic economics, and is determined to break them through brute force. Pay no attention to the lovable doofuses who keep acting surprised that nothing works the way Party dogma says it should. /end

I'm aghast at the mainstreaming of antisemitism, but it's simply not true that it's the "last bigotry Americans accept." Anti-Asian bigotry is downright institutionalized at American universities, and anti-white bigotry is baked into every corner of elite culture and politics.
This is not just a semantic point, and the other acceptable - even mandated - bigotries in America are not unrelated to rising antisemitism. Antisemitism is a time-tested leading indicator of other bigotries to come in any society, the canary in the coal mine of prejudice.
Whenever those in power start deciding that some races or classes of people are simply inferior and should be treated as such under the law, the Jews are reliably among the first victims. It usually starts with them, but it never stops with them.
Funny how there isn't even a tiny bit of grassroots outrage on the Left now that Biden has about four times as many "kids in cages" as Trump ever did. Lefties are robots, a buzzing hive mind that does NOTHING unless its leaders program it to act.
Remember this the next time DNC Media tries to cook up a story about "grassroots anger" on the Left, claims the "Internet is on fire" because six people tweeted something, or labels something sane and normal as "controversial" because a lefty org doesn't like it.
There is no left-wing "grassroots." There's nothing organic, sincere, or genuine about anything the Left does. Their deafening silence today about something that drove them to gibbering spittle-flecked outrage under the last administration is the eternal proof.
The Great Reset model of democracy rebooted with an authoritarian core is selling itself with the exact same rhetoric the Chinese Communist Party uses. The CCP also claims its people are "free" and "safe" thanks to their strong central State.
Every single argument you're hearing from woke censors right now is word-for-word identical to what the CCP says when criticized for its tyranny and human rights abuses. No difference at all. Other authoritarian states are growing more proficient with the same rhetoric.
You still have robust freedom of speech - only a paranoid would claim otherwise! It's just that you're not allowed to say false things, as determined by the Ministry of Truth. And you can't say hateful things, as determined by the Ministry of Compassion.
Nations that value victimhood as the most important currency are not equipped to resist global domination by an aggressive and brutal fascist dictatorship.
Victimhood is one of the worst possible currencies to base a society upon - and over time it tends to degenerate into THE worst currency, violence.
Victimhood follows the laws of supply and demand, just like everything else: more is produced as its value increases.
Everyone wants to manufacture a hot commodity like victimhood. Everyone wants to control its value. Like other currencies, it suffers from inflation as the supply increases. People who used to think they were rich in victimhood find themselves sliding down the totem pole.
After years of employment growth, resurgent confidence, and the first stirrings of cultural renewal, Covid-19 shoved us back into Barack Obama's vision of Hospice America: a dying nation whose socialist caretakers consume our wealth while making our decline comfortable.
Obama's vision held that the American Century was largely a mistake, and our claims to greatness were hypocritical, unfair, and xenophobic. We belonged in those hospice beds, fading away to make room for a vibrantly multicultural world to take the reins of history.
To the Obama Democrats, American greatness was an illusion, achieved by ruthless inequality and exploitation. The socialists would see to it that our deathbeds were equally comfortable as the fire of innovation, industry, competition, and ambition died in America's graying eyes.
I'm not a fan of pointlessly inconveniencing voters, but this mad dash to make voting effortless is a horrible idea, even without considering the destruction of all ballot security and the increased risk of fraud. Requiring SOME effort makes for better voting.
One of the fascinating things about the Internet and social media age is how it has illuminated the changes in human behavior that come from eliminating ALL costs or effort from a given activity. We act very differently when the cost is a tenth of a penny rather than zero.
When it comes to voting, we unquestionably end up with a lower quality of civics and politics - and a VERY noticeably lower quality of elected official - when voting becomes a zero-effort activity. People respond to the message that voting is a frivolous activity.
