On tonight's Question Time a mere 3 out of 5 panellists attended Oxbridge!

4 out of 6 if we include Fiona Bruce...

Representative debate in a modern democracy!

Read on for more analysis of #bbcqt

/1 Image
We'll start with Victoria Atkins, this week's Tory MP

Privately educated and the daughter of Sir Robert Atkins, a former Conservative MP, and Lady Dulcie Atkins, Victoria comes from the heart of Establishment privilege

No wonder she's voted for things like... /2
"Consistently voted against measures to prevent climate change"

"Consistently voted for mass surveillance of people’s communications and activities"

"Consistently voted for replacing Trident with a new nuclear weapons system" /3

#bbcqt

theyworkforyou.com/mp/25424/victo…
"Consistently voted for a reduction in spending on welfare benefits"

BUT

"Consistently voted for reducing the rate of corporation tax"

Need we say more? /4

#bbcqt
Up for Labour is Jess Phillips, a woman so dedicated to countering gender-based violence and hate speech she said of Jeremy Corbyn:

"I won’t knife you in the back – I’ll knife you in the front.” /5

#bbcqt Image
Hilariously, Phillips went on to criticise Corbyn for "nonsense about de-selection...you’ve got the stop the infighting.”

She's now on Keir Starmer's shadow cabinet, which:
- interferes in mayoral elections
- bans branch discussions
- expels members

independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…
Starmer's approval at an all-time low and when does the slide start?

October, when he divided the party with his hugely controversial decision to suspend the previous party leader /7

#bbcqt Image
So much for Labour unity - presumably Kirsten Oswald of the SNP can sympathise

Apparently, there has been some controversy in the SNP recently but haven't heard MUCH about it in the UK press, have you? 🤔

/8
Mark Carney is a former Governor of the Bank of England

Educated at Harvard then Oxford, he is the second of tonight's guests (after Victoria Atkins) to come through Oxbridge #bbcqt

/9
The third is Ian Hislop, doing his best (for 20+ years) to counter the BBC's supposed reliance on left-wing comics

Hislop may be conservative with a small "c", but programmes like "Ian Hislop's Olden Days" and "Ian Hislop's Stiff Upper Lip" emphasise he's no radical

/10

#bbcqt
Another great week for #bbcqt balance then!

66% Oxbridge
0 voices from the left (Phillips is centrist)
Privileged Tory MP and free market banker ensuring the usual slant towards neoliberal economics

Keir Starmer’s 10 Socialist Pledges – A Thread

As the Labour leader plunges in the polls, simpering and abstaining his way to unpopularity, we look back at the ten socialist pledges he committed to a year ago

How many has he kept...?

/1

#SocialistSunday Image
Pledge 1: WENT IN THE BIN Feb 2021

Should have been the easiest pledge for Starmer to keep.

Britain’s corporation tax rate (a tax ONLY on profits) is one of the lowest in Europe at 19%. For comparison France is at 35%, Spain 25% and Germany 30%

Corp tax is so low that... /2 Image
...EVEN THE TORIES plan to increase it to pay for the pandemic

Starmer opposed this: “Now is not the time for tax rises on families and businesses” he said

What family was he talking about – the Murdochs?

🚨Anas Sarwar: Donor Speed Thread🚨

After wealthy donors forced out Richard Leonard, we thought it would be a good idea to scrutinize the donors that have bankrolled his successor!

Read on to discover who's money is now doing the talking in Scot Labour! 👇👇👇

/1
Donor information for Sarwar and Lennon in 2021 has not yet been registered.

Sarwar's donors have been taken from his 2017 contest with Richard Leonard.

We surmise some if not all will have provided financial support to his 2020 campaign.

/2
Lord William Haughey
£10,000
(2017)

Labour Peer. 425th on Times Rich List with fortune of £309M. ScotLab donor and key architect of Starmer conference call in which Haughey threatened to withhold donations unless Leader Richard Leonard was removed.

Indeed. It's worth remembering the role the media played during coverage of Salmond's trial - judging him guilty before, during and after the trial.

We wrote about this at the time

Tonight's "balanced" @bbcquestiontime features THREE spokesmen for extreme wealth:

Grant Shapps who misled parliament about business activities under pseudonym "Michael Green"

Tony Danker, spokesman for the militant CBI

Jeremy King, millionaire restaurateur /1 Image
Even by #bbcqt standards this is absurd

We document elite bias on the show, but to have one confirmed millionaire (Jeremy King) and two almost certain millionaires (Shapps and Danker) on the panel is insane

This is Oligarchic debate, NOT democratic /2

the-free-press.co.uk/question-time/
All overseen by Fiona Bruce, of course - yearly BBC salary £250,000 plus whatever she can cream off the top as a guest speaker

We're bound to get some GREAT perspectives on the issues featuring people queuing for food banks from THIS panel /3

🚨Labour Anti-Semitism Advisory Board: A Thread🚨

Labour have announced an Advisory Board that will draft and implement an EHRC AS Action Plan.

We profile the panel and ask if Jeremy Corbyn/left-wing members will be explicitly targeted by the actions these people dictate? Image
Definition of a Show Trial is one that is "retributive rather than corrective" and is "organized by a government in order to have an effect on public opinion and reduce political opposition, and not in order to find the truth"

For historical examples:

DAVID EVANS
CHAIR LABOUR NEC

Described by the JC as a "fierce critic of Anti-Zionism" Evans had a key role in Blair's 2001 election Victory as Labour assistant General Secretary. As NEC Chair he suspended Corbyn from the Labour Party. A "staunch"...
