So the takeaway of this article is that if you you watch Heavens Gate on fast forward or in slo mo, the ponderous fictional plot might make sense but it's still a terrible movie made by a terrible person. So it's still a masterpiece because...Hollywood. film.avclub.com/one-of-hollywo…

Fazil is a backwoods butcher who ran the Talib army up north. He murdered Hazara, burning some alive in their locked shops. I remember the feet still in the running shoes and the blackened bones sticking out. I would imagine there is still some bad blood. tolonews.com/afghanistan-17…

Stanleyville became the mythical center for much of the later narrative.
In the mid 70's, Angola was the next time mercenaries popped up in the news. John Banks and his motley white mercenary crew for Holden Roberto's FNLA. were captured and put on trial. The book Whores of War covers this story.
Peter McAleese worked in Angola who would later work in Colombia details the murder of mercenaries by one of their leaders. mercenary-wars.net/biography/pete…. The Angolans would later execute some of the captured mercenaries.
