Listening in on the NC House UNC Board of Governors nominations meeting this morning. Get excited! #ncpol#ncga
Rep. William Richardson is not happy with the process for finding the UNC BOG members saying they're not following the process, they're leaving people out of finding board members and that they shouldn't just nominate six and accept those six. #ncleg#ncga
Rep. Richardson asked if there was a memo put out that they could nominate someone because he hadn't heard about it. Rep. Kelly Hastings said its known that this was coming up and anyone could have called him, texted, emailed, etc.
Rep. Richardson said "I just think that with this process with the Board of Governors, it is such a vital organization to say that we should have it more open and more opportunity for folks to submit names and open the process up." #ncleg#ncga
This is the first meeting for this committee this session. Rep. Hastings said despite that this is the same way they've nominated the BOG last session and several before.
Rep. Richardson said he never served on this committee before, did not know that this was the way the committee would operate and asked how he was suppose to know.
Rep. Richardson put forward an amendment to add a name today and the committee is not happy because they haven't had time for vetting. I do not have a copy of the amendment.
Rep. Abe Jones, a Freshman, is asking if this is how the committee usually works. His microphone broke up a lot so I didn't fully hear the question.
Rep. Nasif Majeed said he just learned he was appointed to the committee last month and he also wasn't told about the process and going forward they need to figure out how to make members informed. "This is cold. This is cold to me." He said he didn't know how to offer input.
Rep. Hastings keeps stressing that he didn't solicit the names for the nominations. They came to him.
