OK - @Eaze / #Wirecard jury deliberations Day 2. Now Weigand is his defense chair, but detained Akhavan not yet brought in. Is there another jury note? A verdict? Inner City Press will live tweet the day, thread below patreon.com/posts/49117563
Looks like it's going to be a verdict - Judge Rakoff just spoke to the lawyer about rules involving speaking to jurors after the case is over.
Voice: The public dial-in is silent.
Jury is coming in, filing in front of the prosecutors' table.
Judge Rakoff: Please be seated. In a moment we will read out your verdict. I will not comment on it. You have been a terrific jury.
Opening of verdict form.
Judge Rakoff: It appears to be in proper form.
Judge Rakoff: On Mr. Akhavan, how do you find?
Foreman: Guilty.
Judge Rakoff: And Mr. Weigand?
Foreman: Guilty.
Judge Rakoff (after excusing jury) - Sentencing will be July 26, one at 4 and one at 5.
Request is made for expedited sentencing.
Dispute if that means 3 months or 2 months.
So: June 25 at 11 am and noon.
Judge Rakoff: I think it makes sense to have Mr Akhavan be sentenced first. So he is 11 am and Mr. Weigand noon.
Request for more time to file motions.
So, April 21 for moving papers.
AUSA: We are seeking Mr. Weigand's detention.
Defense: This trial has confirmed that this is a case involving no loss. We are aware your Honor does not follow the [Sentencing] Guidelines rigorously --
Judge Rakoff: That's an understatement.
Weigand's lawyer: He's been out, paying his own guards, without issue.
AUSA Folly: He is a German citizen and could flee there.
Defense: Mr. Weigand has letters --
Judge Rakoff: I'll cut you off because I'm going to rule in your favor. The calculus may be different on the day of sentencing. Let me say, this case was a pleasure. But I've got another proceeding. Podcast and story soon

OK - #insurrectionBlues case against UCLA student Christian Secor in DDC. US is asking for detention. Inner City Press will live tweet, thread below. For now, song (2 weeks ago, Reffitts) soundcloud.com/innercitypress…
AUSA says Secor was planning to flee.
Judge Trevor N. McFadden cuts in: You mean where he says, even if I go away, if they want me, they'll get me?
AUSA: He told agents about fleeing to Oregon. He has access to money from several sources.
AUSA: Secor has made purchases at gun stores. And he has only one registered fire arm. In California one can manufacture one's own gun - but then must take it in to register it.
Judge: Is that different than in Virginia?
AUSA: My understanding is limited.
OK - #insurrectionBlues showdown, DDC Judge Amit Mehta has convened the lawyers in the Oathkeepers case - he begins with 60 Minutes interview. Inner City Press will live tweet, thread below, for now song: soundcloud.com/innercitypress…
Judge Mehta: I hope DOJ is looking into the propriety of the 60 Minutes interview... No matter how much press this case gets, the defendants are entitled to a fair process. These statements could impact the jury pool. The government should know better.
Judge Mehta: Read local criminal rule 57.7, which governs public comments on pending criminal cases. I intend to vigorously enforce it. DOJ needs to understand these statements can impact the rights of defendants. I will not tolerate this.
OK - now #insurrectionBlues presentment of former NYPD officer Sara Carpenter, for being in the Capitol "shaking a tambourine." She just got assigned a Federal Defender. Inner City Press will live tweet, thread below. For now, 1st song: soundcloud.com/innercitypress…
EDNY Magistrate Judge Sanket J. Bulsara: Ms. Carpenter, you were arrested on a D.D.C. warrant. Do you want an identity hearing or a preliminary hearing?
Federal Defender: She waives both.
AUSA: We are not seeking detention, given Ms. Carpenter's cooperation to date with the investigation and her self-surrender today. She gave her passport to the FBI this morning.
Judge: I have a couple of questions. The US Attorney in DC agrees to release?
AUSA: Yes
Endgame in @Eaze trial of US v. Weigand: for those asking, now the prosecutors & defense lawyers are sitting in Judge Rakoff's courtroom, waiting for any notes - or verdict - of the jury. Inner City Press will live tweet, thread below patreon.com/posts/48806960
Update of 12:28 pm in @Eaze trial: Judge Rakoff just came in and read out two notes from the jury foreman.
They want a "smart-board" and markers; they want closing statements. Judge Rakoff says he'll reply that the summations cannot be be sent in. Watch this feed
Update of 2:19 pm - in @Eaze trial, something is afoot: defense counsel and defendants are clustered around their laptops, as are the prosecutors. Waiting for Judge Rakoff to announce what this (jury question) may be
Now that these #insurrectionBlues detention hearing revolve almost entirely around videos that the Government is showing, having the public access to only by AT&T call-in line is not as helpful as it might be. WV hearing of Tanios was be Zoom. Why not DDC?
Update: the McKellop proceeding has been paused - the defendant "is receiving medical treatment." Judge Faruqui suggested starting again tomorrow but lawyer says to wait and see if it can be done today. Judge Faraqui keeps it open - thread will continue
OK - #insurrectionBlues case of US v. Tanios, in WV District, goes global: government says detain him so doesn't fly to Lebanon after allegedly assaulting Officer Brian Sicknick at the Capitol. Inner City Press will live tweet below - song: soundcloud.com/innercitypress…
Witness now in George Tanios' mother. She says, "There is war in Lebanon, I lost family, I want to come to US --"
Judge: Sorry to interrupt at this time, but (court reporter), can you understand?
Mrs. Tanios: I raised my family by the courthouse in New Brunswick
Mrs Tanios: I don't raise bad kids.
Q: What was your employment?
Mrs Tanios: I ran a small luncheon[nette] by the courthouse, Lebanese food.
