Since moving to Texas I've bought three guns now: two hunting rifles and one handgun.

Myself and most responsible gun owners I've talked to agree that it is way too easy to buy guns, and there are so many reasonable restrictions that could be put in place.

One barrier...
Is that the extreme rhetoric around gun ownership on both sides makes it super easy to mischaracterize the other side's arguments.

Again, pretty much all gun owners I talk to are pro reasonable restrictions on gun ownership!

Pretending like anyone who owns a gun is "crazy" for wanting one only alienates reasonable gun owners, especially since there are plenty of legitimately good reasons to own a gun.
At the same time pretending like any restrictions on gun ownership is going to make it impossible to buy a hunting rifle is also absurd, and that's the rhetoric that groups like the NRA often use to block reasonable firearms laws.
I don't have a solution here, but I just want to add to the chorus of gun owners who want more restrictions.

It's a surprisingly large demographic, much bigger than I realized when I lived in NYC.

Here to answer any questions 👋
Okay one last tidbit to highlight how crazy the whole gun buying process is:

It is FASTER to update your driver's license by buying a gun than by going to the DMV.

Gun shops can issue you a new driver's license! Just so you don't have to wait to buy your gun. Wild.

The more time I spend outside, the more in-tune I get with the low-grade anxiety from being inside for more than an hour or two at a time.

Gonna just push my desk outside and throw a tarp over it and hope it doesn't get fried by rain.
How did I get this thing in here? Guess I have to take it apart 🤦‍♂️ Image
Flipping around wasn’t an option, and this was faster than taking all the doors off Image

Two weeks is pretty early to judge these things, but so far there’s no clear uptick in cases since Texas removed its mask mandate 2 weeks ago.

In fact they’re down about 30.7% Image
The real test will be at 4-6 weeks, but this is still great news.
Okay I checked the national numbers to get a base rate to compare this too and it’s even more surprising: nationally cases are only down 9% Image

I think my new favorite intellectual demographic is crypto prepper bro, people who are into:

- crypto
- privacy
- hunting
- cooking
- homesteading
- the creator economy

what else fits in that bucket?
Part of why I think it's interesting is it blends a variety of traditionally liberal and traditionally conservative values into this new techno traditionalist lifestyle, I suspect it'll grow over the next decade.
- psychedelics
- fitness
- FIRE
- farm to table
- broad spiritualism but non-monotheism
- medical freedom

I wonder how many of our mental and physical chronic diseases are attributable in part to spending way too much time inside.
I’ve been tracking alcohol and weed consumption, exercise, time outside, time with friends, diet, sleep, etc, and I can say with pretty high certainty that time outside and time with community are the two biggest factors for my sense of well-being.
I’ll sometimes start to feel anxious or depressed in the afternoon, and when I do it’s always a day I spent most of my time inside.

Worse if I was inside all day and didn’t see any friends.

So not only is big tech deciding what we can talk about, now they’re also deciding who gets to manipulate the stock market
Like did people really think banning Trump and Parler was the end of it?

Reddit and Discord basically just shut down the successful iteration of Occupy Wall Street.
Hoping I’m wrong at least about Reddit and this is what’s going on:

Announcement! My new work focus is...

I'm building a town for creators.

Not from scratch, but by growing a historic town near Austin.

Year 1 projects include: New housing, a coworking cafe, boutique hotel & more.

I don't think I've ever been so excited to work on something 😃
A few asks:

If that sounds cool, follow me for updates!

If you know anyone working on anything remotely similar, please tag them or DM me.

If you have any interest in investing, DM me for investor info & updates.

Can't wait to share more details soon 🎉
Specific town, initial project sites, and other details like that coming in the next few weeks!

I plan to do all of this building in public, should be a lot of fun.
