The flag debate in a nutshell -> "it is much easier to have a distracting row about flags than be held accountable for such 'patriotic' acts as cutting the army to its smallest size in 165 years or offering NHS staff a 1% pay rise" - mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/t…
I do love the wider discussion of little Englanders becoming tired of being called little Englanders ... I thought everyone was being very polite, very British by not using the word fascists to describe this subculture. Well, if they insist.
Oh, and the appeal to a sense of duty -there are many forms of duty. There is our duty of care to others, there is our duty to a set of rules that describe a behavioural norm (i.e. honour) and there is our duty to an authority and its symbols (i.e. subservience) ...
... our "little Englanders" or more apt "little englanders" show no duty of care to others, given the constant use of manipulation and lies in politics then honour isn't there either ... it's just subservience to authority and the symbols of. The flag debate makes sense.
So, in pursuit of a better term than "little englanders", it has to include that demand to be subservient to symbols rather than a duty of care to others. I think "fascist poodle" adequately captures the idea. That's my new term for "little englanders" ... anyway ...
... naming aside, let us get to the appaling NHS pay rise, decline of our armed forces, excessive waste of Government ... a long list. We can let this subculture of fascist poodles bark at their flags as long as the remaining Brits get some action on the real issues.
But then that's the point of the whole announcement ... to avoid scrutiny and action on the real issues by filling the airwaves with fascist poodles barking at symbols. Pity, Britain was once Great and this is just ... Sad.
They really shouldn't have replaced Theresa May, she was an outstanding leader compared to what is happening today. Theresa actually led rather than just played to the gallery. Sad indeed.
X : You're not very patriotic.
Me : The opposite. Patriotism is a willingness to defend your collectives cherished values, in the UK that means reasoned debate, care for others, inclusion and democracy. Patriotism is not barking at a symbol just because master told you to.
X : You're not very tolerant of other viewpoints.
Me : Quite the opposite. However, tolerance requires intolerance of intolerance. I think I've been civil to these fascist poodles for far too long already. This distraction play when there are real issues at hand is too much.
X : I thought you were in favour of brexit?
Me : I am and it is wrong to associate this with brexit. Those that I know in favour of brexit are not fascist poodles but we do have this subculture, this vociferous group of little englanders that are. They are a problem ...
... and it is wrong to listen to them, to embolden them, to play to that "nationalist" gallery, to emphasise symbols like flags.

UK is not alone in arseholes playing to arseholes ... take France and 2nd vaccine blackmail threats, that is despicable - theguardian.com/society/2021/m…
Which is why we need to de-emphasise their voices and get to the issues at hand. They will bark at flags, bark about patriotism, bark about duty but we should throw the bone into a bottomless pit and say "fetch".

Create a futures market offsetting cabon emissions against future trees, I'll create collaterized carbon obligations and synthetic swaps on top. Run it all on blockchain and make us a fortune!

Saving the planet is not guaranteed, survivability make go up as well as down ->
Of course, I'm only saying this in jest.

In practice, this market will already exist.
In our current system the solutions to problems caused by transactions are always ... more transactions.

Inequality ... let's have philanthropy

Climate change ... let's have carbon offsets and a carbon market

At no point do we go ... maybe the transactions ARE the problem.

Freedom of the press? Oh dear ... whilst I'm supportive of the police and understand the difficulty of the work, this need investigation ...
... however, the use of shields as a weapons by striking with the edges ... they are supposed to protective measures of crowd control.
It's almost always a near impossible task for the Police to get the balance right, however the situation is not helped by a certain group of MPs jumping in and flaming the fires for their own political ends - bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…

Well, I would in general agree ... though I use three different words. I would also note that in 15 years of building teams / companies with three different archetypes that there are some basic lessons to be learned ... /1
Firstly, it's a model, it's not new (Robert X. Cringely talked of this in the 1990s) and as a model it's also wrong. So, think of the three archectypes as a useful guide but be willing to adapt ... /2
Secondly, the characteristics of the archetypes are different but people adapt, people change - so let people self select and change. All are important and which archetype "leads" depends upon the state of the evolution of that industry ... /3

I love this line ... "But what is that space? We’ve had mathematical idealizations and abstractions of it for two thousand years. But what really is it? Is it made of something, and if so, what?" - writings.stephenwolfram.com/2020/04/finall… by @@stephen_wolfram (H/T @ajbouh) ... why? ... well ...
... a long time ago, I spent a decade of my life working on ... nothing - blog.gardeviance.org/2006/07/insane…
Whilst many ask "where did all the matter come from" ... the question that plagued me which led to the whole zero board stuff was "where did all the space come from, it's not nothing, it's space". That's the question we had to answer. That post by @stephen_wolfram is fascinating.

“We have a government so addicted to outsourcing that it has even outsourced being held to account" ... this is the work of the civil service, I'm flabbergasted. What next? Management consultants to take over the NAO / MPA and auditing of projects? This is madness ->
The whole purpose of spend control was to introduce challenge because of the ridiculous outsourcing bonanza under previous administrations (including Labour) which had weakened the civil service. The role of GDS was too show what good looked like. How a decade has changed things.
I cannot emphasise enough the importance of spend control in Gov - blog.gardeviance.org/2016/05/stoppi… ... at the heart of it is "challenge" and you need that ability within the civil service. You need to empower the civil service not outsource more to consultants.

X : Thoughts on seperation of concerns?
Me : Hmmm ... it's generally a good thing.
X : Separate data and presentation.
Me : Whoa ... hold your horses, I said generally. Depends upon what you're building and what you're focused on.
X : Explain
Me : Let us pretend we've decided to build the world's first "kitten internet" i.e. to enable kittens to join the digital age for fun and profit!
X : I hope this gets real soon.
Me : I've built a map of our intrepid endeavour!
Me : Now from the map you can see a clear separation of concerns i.e. you don't want to go building the internet or power or machine learning engines etc. You want to use those components from others.
X : With you so far.
Me : But now think about the kitty internet bit ...
