During an interview on Fox, the now Senate minority leader said: "I don't believe I have spoken with him [President Biden] since he was sworn in.” #velshi
2/13
Mitch McConnell’s office later confirmed that wasn’t accurate since McConnell himself told reporters just last month that he and Biden had spoken about issues in Myanmar, the budget process and the coronavirus relief bill. #velshi
3/13
McConnell, seeming to want to score some points said: “there has been no effort whatsoever by the president or the administration to do anything in the political center." #velshi
4/13
The “political center”. That’s an amazing statement from Mitch McConnell, whom I’m not sure could navigate himself to the center of a Tootsie Pop, let alone the political center. McConnell maybe confusing doing things his way with the word “bipartisanship”. #velshi

Joe Biden has been in office for 66 days. The paint in the Oval is still drying so there are no patterns of behavior to speak of yet. The so-far brief momentum from the White House to work together, has probably been greater the last 2 months than the last 4 years. #velshi
6/13
Biden hosted Republicans to discuss the $1.9 trillion economic stimulus plan. A plan for which numerous polls showed broad bipartisan support before and after it was passed. A plan for which not a single republican voted. #velshi
7/13
President Biden has also met personally with other groups of Republicans and now the White House is in touch with GOP senators to talk infrastructure and immigration. #velshi
8/13
There’s probably a lot more the Biden administration can, will and should do, but the literal last person to speak about a lack of bipartisanship is Mitch McConnell. #velshi
9/13
McConnell could have worked hard to achieve things with President Obama during a recession recovery but instead said quote: “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” #velshi
10/13
McConnell seems to forget that 81.2M Americans voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 election. Pres. Biden proved his ability to get his message out to the country and the country responded, with the highest vote-count ever received by a presidential candidate. #velshi
11/13
While the country is deeply divided, a majority elected Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, a fact that Mitch McConnell refused to even acknowledge for SIX WEEKS after the election ended. #velshi
12/13
There are a lot of important issues America needs to work on including infrastructure, the economy, our global relationships and getting the country closer to normal after a brutal pandemic. #velshi
13/13
Biden’s 5 decade's long track record in politics suggests that bipartisan efforts will be used to get us there. So McConnell, rather than whine about things only 2 months in, how about setting an example for your party & live up to your title as minority “LEADER.” #velshi

While we await more information about the recent fatal shootings of 8 people, 6 of whom were Asian women, in GA, we know enough about the chilling effect the killings have had on Asians in American, especially in light of the recent surge in violence against them. #velshi
2/12
None of this is new. Anti-Asian racism has a long and troubling history, including the passage of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 - a law specifically designed to prevent Chinese American laborers from entering the country. #velshi
3/12
To this day it’s the only law ever passed to prevent all members of a specific ethnic or national group from immigrating here. Scapegoating Asian Americans for public health issues is not new, either. #velshi

There’s a special relationship between a shark and a pilot fish. On the surface it appears friendly, but it’s better described as “mutualistic,” where each species benefits from the relationship. #velshi
2/11
In this case, the pilot fish gets protection against predators while feeding off fragments of food in the shark’s teeth which, in turn, helps the shark avoid potentially deadly parasites. An unlikely pairing - a Pilot Fish and a shark - but together they work. #velshi
3/11
That seems to be the best analogy for the relationship between Lindsey Graham and Donald Trump. And if it wasn’t already clear - Trump is the shark and Graham is the pilot fish in this scenario. #velshi

Let me tell you a story, that is based in the truth.
They say they’re cancelling a doctor. Cancelling Dr. Seuss!

How these rumors began should not fill you with shocks.
As you can probably imagine, many started on Fox.

#velshi

The REAL story is this, so gather round and take note:
Dr. Seuss wasn’t cancelled for something he wrote.

Theodore Geisel was Seuss’ real name.
But since creating his works, the world sure has changed.

Those who manage his legacy have taken a look.
And to preserve his integrity, they’ve deleted some books.

You see, in the 30’s and 40’s, and for decades thereafter,
Stereotypes were common, and often brought laughter.

Xinjiang is China’s largest region by size. It borders Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Russia, Mongolia, and the former majority Muslim states of the Soviet Union. #velshi
3/13
Of the 25 million people who live in Xinjiang, about 11 million are Turkic, as opposed to the Han Chinese who are the overwhelming majority in China. They are known as Uighurs. #velshi

"The events in Birmingham & elsewhere have so increased the cries for equality that no city or state or legislative body can prudently choose to ignore them. It is a time to act, in Congress, in State & local legislative bodies & above all, in all of our daily lives"

That was President Kennedy in a speech to the American people on June 11, 1963. It was considered a watershed moment in the Civil Rights movement and marked the beginning of the end of a long struggle for equal rights. #velshi

Protesters began to pressure Birmingham’s business leaders to open employment to people of all races, and end segregation in public institutions, stores, schools, and restaurants. #velshi

On Thursday the Biden administration, along with congressional Democrats, unveiled a new immigration bill creating a path of 8 years to citizenship for the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants already in the country. #velshi
2/11
The bill also provides an expedited path for DREAMERS - the undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children by their parents. #velshi
3/11
The bill’s approval has a tough road ahead given razor thin Democratic majorities in both houses, but while there’s little bipartisan support for immigration reform in Washington, DC, there’s broad support for what it aims to do among Americans. #velshi
