A little more about Georgia and #votersuppression. GA is the first state to pass an omnibus voter suppression bill after the 2020 election. It’s not surprising google.com/amp/s/www.nyti…
Georgia Republicans decided to go BIG on #VoterSuppression because Trump drew the line in the sand in GA calling on GOP leaders to ignore verified (several times) outcome and just move some votes into his column but they didn’t to save face & their butts they quickly pass SB202
Georgia Republicans have known for decades that their population was shifting w increases in Black, Latinx & AAPI but they also were banking on them staying unregistered & had Brian Kemp running elections so they had it under control #VoterSuppression
What Georgia Republicans missed is that in the past decade and in midst of Stacey Abrams run for Governor the new population and increasingly progressive youth vote were registering. Kemp purged voters but that wasn’t enuf to stop the 2020 Wave #VoterSuppression
Now Georgia Republicans in reaction to the wave of BIPOC and young voters are making it harder to vote saying it’s about election integrity BUT there’s no evidence of fraud no matter how many times they say it, doesn’t make it true #VoterSuppression
The new GA #VoterSuppression law is a power grab targeting Black voters who jumped over hurdles to vote since the 13th Amendment! Black voters not only gave Biden a win but also 2 senators and a growing # of Black electeds in the state.
It’s clear the GA law targets Black voters:
Can’t give water & food to voters, Black groups & churches did that because of long lines due to #VoterSuppression; limits on drop boxes & no mobile collection site -urban areas need more
Cuts to deadlines for voting & run offs, Rs still mad about Senate Elections. Another nefarious #VoterSuppression provision is legislature can suspend powers of local state election boards & appoint a new person to make decisions!! If they don’t like what locals do-take it over
Georgia Republicans think they can get away with it because Conservatives spent decades chipping away at protections under the Voting Rights Act and now we have to sue to stop them and DOJ has no special tools to stop them & GOO packed courts with their judges. #VoterSuppression
#VoterSuppression has deep roots. There are no nat’l standards for voting because it was a political compromise to keep the South (slave holders) in the union letting every state make its own rules. So there’s is NO Right to Vote in the Constitution
To stop rigging of elections #VoterSuppression that silences BIPOC voters Congress must pass #ForThePeopleAct to get standards & John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Acr AND we need a constitutional amendment for a Right to Vote as Senators Durbin & Warren & @adv_project agree

Black and Brown people dying at higher rates #coronavirus due to a confluence of issues all created by white supremacy and capitalism. Follow:
People with underlying health conditions are more vulnerable. Black & Brown people have higher rates of diabetes, heart conditions, asthma etc due to lack of access to healthcare that was privatized, healthy food but more exposure to poor environmental conditions #coronavirus
To be safe from COVID-19 people need to practice social distancing and self-quarantine. Black and Brown people can’t. They live in overcrowded housing due to high housing costs caused by greed and failure to have a right to housing in the US #coronavirus
