2. Introduce yourself and explain why you are writing!
Keep it simple and precise.
X- I am Olumuyiwa from Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State, Nigeria...Not necessary biko(remember your introduction is like a romantic scent to attract your potential partner).
3. Talk about what attracted you to their lab/group.
Do not be generic here!!
It's important to read one or two publications from the group and ask questions.... I know 70% japa won't do this and this accounts for a lot of those unreplied emails since they lack direction
4. Explain why they must pick you.
Biko, wait a minute!!
Remember, this is taxpayer money and you must justify that you are a good fit by highlighting your hands on experience and soft skills.
Write with confidence and make it look like it's their loss if they do not pick you!
Do not write as if you intend to tour the whole of EU if considered or being emotional. e.g an opportunity to be part of your group would be a plus to training Nigerians (delete)
5. Attach your error-free CV and proposal (optional)
6. You can indicate that you are available for zoom or skype call if considered.
7. Read that email over and over again before you press the send button
8. With these, you should get a favourable response and again, I have made a great deal of networking with groups/labs who had no space or funding for me when I wrote them for PhD/Postdoc positions.
