ISID/ESCMID FELLOWSHIPS

The International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) and the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) established their joint fellowship program in 2010 to foster international,
peer-to-peer collaboration and the exchange of scientific knowledge and best practice. The program enables early-career investigators, from low and lower-middle income countries outside of the region, to travel to Europe for multidisciplinary clinical and laboratory training.
In the formative stages of their careers, successful applicants are given the opportunity to extend their research experience; learn from experienced infectious disease specialists; and return home with knowledge and processes that will help them improve clinical
practice in regions where it most needs strengthening. With this objective in mind, proposals that enhance the transfer of technologies to geographical areas where they are particularly needed are favored.
Applicants must make their own connections and arrangements for the fellowship stay.

Two fellowships of up to US$7,500 and up to three months in duration are awarded annually.
Eligibility

ISID/ESCMID fellowships are open to residents of low and lower-middle income countries, as classified by the World Bank, from outside of Europe, who are less than
forty years of age*, and will benefit from the opportunity to work or study outside of their country of residence.

Cold emailing a Professor feedback
👇

Dear _____,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to say that this email is too generic for me to consider you as a future student working with me at this time [but please feel free to try again after reading this email].
Your email doesn’t demonstrate that you know what topics I work on. I’d recommend in the future sending only a few emails. Focus on 10 or fewer potential supervisors that really fit your specific research interest.
Explain what specifically drew you to them as a supervisor. Explain what you want to work on with them. You should have read one of their papers, or at minimum, read a description of their research from their webpage.

Cold emailing a Professor!!

1. Salutation is very important.

Resist the temptation to use Dear Honorable Prof Agbajeola.

Dear Professor Akeokoro Olajobi,
2. Introduce yourself and explain why you are writing!

Keep it simple and precise.

X- I am Olumuyiwa from Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State, Nigeria...Not necessary biko(remember your introduction is like a romantic scent to attract your potential partner).
3. Talk about what attracted you to their lab/group.

Do not be generic here!!

It's important to read one or two publications from the group and ask questions.... I know 70% japa won't do this and this accounts for a lot of those unreplied emails since they lack direction

When I wrote about mail tracker here couple of weeks ago, it was from a particular scenario, a graduate school applicant recently wrote a Professor for funding and he didn't reply.

The applicant was frustrated and angry because he got the notification that the said Prof read it
See, let me be frank with you, a Professor receives an average of 20 emails per week seeking for MS/PhD positions. The onus is on him/her to reply you.

If you have funding, why not go to the UK-very easy at that!

Mail tracker for someone like me is even a turn off.
If I would review your CV and email within my 8-6pm lab activities, 14days is always my deal to get it back to you. So, calm down and use every resources we have here for your growth!!
