Really liking some of the takes over been seeing about free software. It’s wild that the FSF has failed in its mission so badly that it’s basically prevented a lot of folks from evening imagining what software freedom could mean. The best stuff I’ve seen engages with this deeply
Why isn’t the FSF doing accessibility advocacy work? Give you three guesses
There are so many ways of conceptualizing what freedom means in a software context, but the FSF has remained stuck in the past, and it’s harmed at least one if not two generations of dev’s abilities to even imagine these possibilities
Instead it’s all ecosystem lock-in thanks to legacy software, and arguing that everyone should use the GPL over MIT. It’s such a narrow and limiting conception, for an organization that is supposed to be at the vanguard of this entire philosophy
“Over” should be “I’ve” in this tweet but phones suck
I think I’m latching onto this specific accessibility point because it’s a good one, but also because like, the origin story of free software is an accessibility story. But instead of recognizing it as a single form of accessibility, it was instead focused on as the only thing.

Here’s a big idea: don’t give executives huge raises while core metrics are going down year over year. Don’t fire tons of people and blame it on the pandemic. How about them big ideas
Nothing says “I love big new ideas” like shitcanning your entire research division
in previous videos, i wrote the script in paragraphs, then recorded each paragraph separately, and put them together
for this video, i just recorded me reading the whole thing. If I didn't like the delivery of a sentence, I just read it again. then i took that single large file, chopped up each sentence individually, and put it together there
please tag your posts as nsfw if you're gonna jerk off everywhere
there is an interesting back and forth to be had about various forms of writing, the audiences, the styles. like, there are entire fields of human endeavor about this topic
but no, the "write simply" cultists want to completely erase all of this
