Janine Wissler condemns Germany’s deportation of Tamils
Co-chairperson of the German ‘Die Linke’ party, Janine Wissler, has released a statement condemning the forced deportation of at least 80 Tamils from Germany.
In the video shared above she states that,
“A minimum of 80- 90 people are going to get deported tomorrow [30th March] from Germany. They have lived here for a long time, and were arrested when trying to extended their “Duldung” (tolerated stay permit).
Now the question is there’s a worldwide pandemic, is it humane to start deportation flights when travel has been banned.
At the moment Tamil people are not safe in Sri Lanka, there are still 20,000 Tamils unaccounted for. Only last week had we signed a UN resolution with 21 other countries to look into Sri Lanka’s missing people.
In 2019 Sri Lanka had decided to bring back the death penalty. Austria has taken Sri Lanka out of its safe countries list. The EU has already criticized Sri Lanka so it is not right to carry on with the deportation of Tamils.
Sri Lanka is deemed as unsafe for them, and we are in the middle of a pandemic, so we ask that the government stops this right now.
There are protests taking place and the church also supports the termination of the deportations from taking place.”
