Further information on the protests that were held by the North-Eastern Provincial Association yesterday, in Vavuniya and Kilinochchi, for the enforced disappearances of their relatives.
Families of the disappeared have said it is painful to see that the international community has handed over the provision for justice to Sri Lanka.

They stated this whilst participating in the demonstrations. Furthermore, they went on to state;
“We have been waging protests for more than three years to find out the true state of our relatives. But no government has given us justice. We are protesting for the return of our relatives. We are not expecting anything more from this government.
Until we have justice, we will continue this protest non-stop. We are fighting for international justice, but despite the many resolutions passed against Sri Lanka in the Geneva, it has not been to the benefit of the families of the disappeared.
We did not protest for the compensation office or the missing office.

How can we expect to get justice from those who committed the crimes. It is painful to see that the international community has handed over the provision for justice to Sri Lanka.
We are therefore looking towards the international community to resolve our suffering.” They have said.

President Rajapaksa has claimed that Sri Lanka will not pander to the geopolitics of global powers by supporting the devolution to the Provincial Councils. Gotabaya Rajapaksa believes that power devolution is being used by global powers to push for separatism. Image
“We will not be a victim of big power rivalry in the Indian Ocean” Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

The 13th Amendment passed in 1987, created the Provincial Councils, which assured that all 9 provinces on the island had the right to self-govern.
