Her story is a text book example of a woman who made it big in the male dominated society, alas, she never made into the good books of Red Bindi Brigade.

#TSKanaka (Thanjavur Santhanakrishna Kanaka) was a pioneer in neurosurgery, as one of the first neurosurgeons in the world
and the first female neurosurgeon in Asia.
She was the first neurosurgeon in India to perform chronic electrode implants in the brain & first to perform deep brain stimulation as early as in 1975.

Was she just a life saving doctor? No she was a life saving blood donor too…
Dr Kanaka, has a Limca record in her name for donating blood 139 times in her lifetime.
Dr. Kanaka was born on this day in 1932 at Madras. She decided to dedicate her life to helping patients after her brother died of an unknown illness at the age of 9.
This tragedy
influenced Kanaka's decision to remain unmarried and instead pursue a career in medicine to dedicate her life to helping patients.

But it was not an easy path, Dr Kanaka faced the discrimination in the male dominated field. Deeply Spiritual Dr Kanaka completed her MBBS in
December 1954, Master of Surgery (MS) in 1963. In 1968, she obtained her Master of Surgery (MCh) in Neurosurgery and later completed a PhD in the Evaluation of Stereotatic surgery in Cerebral Palsy in 1972.
Throughout her entire career, she was surrounded by mostly men and not
treated as an equal. Persistence allowed her to earn her M.S. degree and remain in medicine.
“Every time I took the final exam, the external examiner from Bombay failed me. It was only in the sixth attempt that I qualified,”.
said the legendary DrTSKanaka in an interview.
The general surgery dept chief made it harder for her to progress through the hospital’s hierarchy &develop an understanding of the surgeries. He ensured that she was not put on emergency visits instead gave to her male colleagues.
Even through these struggles, she maintained
her drive to help the less-fortunate. While working at Govt General Hospital and teaching at several others, she also volunteered with people who could not afford healthcare.
She was associated with Tirumala Devasthanams for 30yrs

Kanaka served in the Indian Army as a
commissioned officer during the 1962-1963 in China War, She was predominantly associated for most of her career with the Government General Hospital. Kanaka also taught at the Madras Medical College, Epidemiological Research Centre, Adyar Cancer Institute, Hindu Mission Hospital
and other hospitals.
Kanaka retired as a surgeon in 1990, but continued to offer consultancy services and refused to descend into private practice.

She used her own funds to establish a hospital, named after her parents as the
Sri Santhanakrishna Padmavathi Health Care and
Research Foundation, which offers free healthcare to the needy.
Dr T S Kanaka, joined the feet of Shree Venkateshwara on 14 November 2018 at the age of 86.

Dr. TS Kanaka inspires millions to try the hardest you possibly can, even when you are at a disadvantage. Even though
people did not want her to succeed, she persisted. She rose above the challenges on her own.

On his jayanti, let us know more about

After hearing it, Justice Smelly said: “His defense is even more seditious than his original speech!” In his
August 19 judgment, the judge ordered Hedgewar to give an undertaking in writing that he would not deliver seditious speeches for 1 yr, and furnish a bail bond of Rs3,000.
Hedgewar’s response was terse: “My conscience tells me that I am completely innocent. A policy of

Please apologise for spoiling your mood with this tragic story, but this needs to be told.
3 decades have passed since the demise of #Maniben, daughter of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, I, in brief give you what happened to her after Sardar’s death.
Even though Sardar Patel had
substantial earnings as a very Successful Lawyer, he gave up everything after plunging into the Freedom movement.
Maniben upheld her father’s legacy, the pride and dignity inherited from him, to her last breath. Neither she sought any favours from the Congress leaders, nor did
they help her, at the critical junctures of her life even when she was struggling to make ends meet after the passing away of her father.
When Sardar Patel passed way, she picked up a book and a bag that belonged to him and went to meet Jawaharlal Nehru in Delhi. She handed them

Read the story of #GaneshShankarVidyarthi – The Freedom Fighter butchered by Jihadis.

Ganesh Shankar was born on 26-Oct-1890 at Prayagraj, he had his private education from his
father and joined school when he was 12.

Time to know about another Unsung Freedom Fighter – USHA MEHTA.
Usha grew up highly influenced by Gandhi and became one of his followers. She made an early decision to remain celibate for life and took up a Spartan lifestyle, wearing only Khadi clothes and keeping away from
luxuries of all types.
Born on March 25, 1920, in Saras, near Surat, Usha was just eight years old when she took part in her first protest. It was against Simon Commission and "The first slogan I shouted against the British was 'Simon Go Back'," she said in an interview in
Naveen Joshi's book, Freedom Fighters Remembered.
She took part in all sorts of civil disobedience campaigns - from picketing and protests to spinning cotton as a way of rejecting British imports.
"There was no need for any inspiration. The whole atmosphere was so charged that
