On this day in 1918, at Bangalore’s Varthur was born B. N. Sundara Rao, an eminent historian whose magnum opus is “BENGALURINA ITIHASA” which is considered as an authority even to this day.
Belagere Narasimhamurthy Sundara Rao after finishing his higher education at National
College joined army before leaving it for Mysore Electricity Board as Tax Inspector.
Ba.Na. Sundar Rao used his pen name #VANAVIHARI.
A prolific writer, he authored 25 Kannada books including "Bengalurina Itihasa", one of the few authentic sources on the
history of Bengaluru from founding till Indian independence.

He also wrote and published biographies of notable people of Karnataka, several travelogues, short stories, poems and many articles in various periodicals. He was a great orator and gave lectures on history,
literature, education and the Indian freedom movement.

While Bangladesh is celebrating its liberation day, here, we have Sundar Rao who wrote BANGLODAYA – A book about creation of Bangladesh. BaNaSum also wrote BHARATA-PAKISTANA SAMARADA ITIHASA.

These 2 books demanded
considerable labour and his meetings with the military personnel at various levels culminated in another monumental work on the biographical sketches of one hundred warriors from Karnataka who fought in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, some of whom lost their lives in the war.
The Result was another epic KARNATAKADA VEERA YODHARU and this book was released by Gen. K.M Cariappa in 1972.
BaNaSum also wrote biographies on Mokshagundam Sir M V, Cha. Vasudevayya (Teacher of Sir M.V) and Bellave Narahari Shastri.

Though Mysore state had agreed to join
Bharat’s Union after independence, the transfer was not so easy and BaNaSum in his book MYSORE CHALO has documented the struggles of the people of Bengaluru who could not enjoy the freedom on 15 August 1947.

Sundararao gave a lecture series on the history of Bengaluru at the
Secretariat Club in Cubbon Park during the 1980s. The lecture notes were compiled into the nucleus of a book, and turned into his magnum opus, Bengalurina Itihasa, which was released in 1986 by Chief Editor of the Karnataka State Gazetteer Dr. Suryanath U. Kamath. The book was
published after many years of laborious research in government archives and after researching relevant archeological artefacts located all over the city and surrounding rural areas. This book is considered as an authentic source on the history of Bengaluru.
On 08th October 1986, BaNaSum suffered a fatal cardiac arrest and the life of prolific writer and historian came to an end.

Please apologise for spoiling your mood with this tragic story, but this needs to be told.
3 decades have passed since the demise of #Maniben, daughter of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, I, in brief give you what happened to her after Sardar’s death.
Even though Sardar Patel had Image
substantial earnings as a very Successful Lawyer, he gave up everything after plunging into the Freedom movement.
Maniben upheld her father’s legacy, the pride and dignity inherited from him, to her last breath. Neither she sought any favours from the Congress leaders, nor did
they help her, at the critical junctures of her life even when she was struggling to make ends meet after the passing away of her father.
When Sardar Patel passed way, she picked up a book and a bag that belonged to him and went to meet Jawaharlal Nehru in Delhi. She handed them Image

Read the story of #GaneshShankarVidyarthi – The Freedom Fighter butchered by Jihadis.
Ganesh Shankar was his birth name and he adopted the pen-name 'Vidyarthi' – the seeker of knowledge.
Ganesh Shankar was born on 26-Oct-1890 at Prayagraj, he had his private education from his
father and joined school when he was 12.
Poverty made him to leave studies after matriculation and join a job as clerk….meanwhile the fiery articles at Swarajya and Karmayogi attracted him.
After working with couple of newspapers and magazines, in 1913, he started #Pratap, his
famous revolutionary weekly, which identified itself with the cause of the oppressed wherever they might be.
The Popularity and Circulation of Pratap increased day by day. During the course of these fights, he had to face numerous prosecutions, pay heavy fines and suffer five

Time to know about another Unsung Freedom Fighter – USHA MEHTA.
Usha grew up highly influenced by Gandhi and became one of his followers. She made an early decision to remain celibate for life and took up a Spartan lifestyle, wearing only Khadi clothes and keeping away from
luxuries of all types.
Born on March 25, 1920, in Saras, near Surat, Usha was just eight years old when she took part in her first protest. It was against Simon Commission and "The first slogan I shouted against the British was 'Simon Go Back'," she said in an interview in
Naveen Joshi's book, Freedom Fighters Remembered.
She took part in all sorts of civil disobedience campaigns - from picketing and protests to spinning cotton as a way of rejecting British imports.
"There was no need for any inspiration. The whole atmosphere was so charged that

It was 1911, an ALL-INDIAN cricket team for the first time left for England.
One Bowler who had already crossed 36 years shocked the white skinned Brits by taking 114 wickets at an average of 18.84 with a best haul of 8/103 against Cambridge.
That Legend Was #PalwankarBaloo.
Remembering a Kannadiga, a proud Hindu, a finest cricketer Bharat produced who is erased from public including Harijan's memory as he doesn't fit the Dalit Champions agenda.
Palwankar Baloo was born into a Chambhar caste family in Dharwad on 19th March 1876, his father was a
sepoy in British army.
Baloo and his younger brother Shivaram learnt to play cricket with the kits discarded by army officers in Pune. Baloo’s first job was at a cricket club run by Parsis at a monthly salary of 3 rupees. Later, he took job with European-only Poona Club at a

Apart from Ramayana, Mahabharata & Bhagavad-Gita, Every Individual Must Have
#MankutimmanaKagga at their Prayer Room.
Why?
There are very few people who can explain the beauty of Sanatana Dharma like #DVGundappa did.
Smile is a natural Dharma– It is the basic nature of human to
be happy.
Making others smile is immaculate Dharma
It is an exalted nature to make others happy.
There is another Dharma which is Supreme & above these 2, that is Smiling looking at others happiness.
We must pray to the almighty, the all-merciful to get this as a boon & to lead
our lives by smiling & by making others smile.
This is the only gift we can be able to provide for the mankind.
Can anybody believe these great "philosophical words for the mankind" came from a person who failed in his 10th Class?
No words are enough to pay tributes for

Heard this name
#ChandraprabhaSaikiani ?
Much before the advent of FEMINISM & Page3 Celebrities, there was an Iron lady who fought for freedom of Bharat, who fought for education for women, who fought against Christian Missionaries & their Disease called Conversion.
A tribute to the brave woman, who, when she was just 12, CHALLENGED the Missionaries who tried to convert her in the name of education, who participated in both Civil Disobedience and Non Cooperation Movement during freedom struggle.
Born as Chandrapriya Mazumdar(1901) at
Kamrup of Assam, she attended a boys school for studies, impressed with her dedication, she got scholarship to attend Nagaon Mission School, where she protested against School Authorities as they wanted her to get converted for hostel stay.
She won against school authorities &
