Things That Break The Fast

[According to the Hanafi Fiqh]

A 🧵
There are four categories here:

1)Things that break the fast and you have to do Kaffarah

2)Things that break the fast, but you don't have to do Kaffarah

3)Things that are Makruh while fasting

4) Things that don't break the fast
A) Things that break the fast and you have to do Kaffarah.

Kaffarah means you have to fast for 60 days without a break in between

This is when you eat or drink something that is normally eaten or drunk while knowing that you are fasting with the intention of breaking the fast
B) Things that break the fast, but you don't have to do Kaffarah.

1) Accidentally swallowing food or drink while remembering that you are fasting.

2) Being forced to break your fast (extreme situation).

3) Consuming something which isn't normally eaten or drunk (dust, metal).
4) If sperm comes out due to touching the private area (masturbation — This is not allowed)

5) If a person forces themselves to vomit and the vomit is more than a mouthful

6) For medicine to go into the butt (anus).

7) To use the inhaler
8)To take medicine from your mouth or nose

9) To have something go down your throat in a dental treatment

10) To swallow blood

11) To swallow vomit

12) If food is stuck in your mouth from suhur, and it is more than a chickpea, swallowing it will break the fast.
C) Things that are Makruh in the fast.

1) Gathering a lot of spit and drinking it in order to quench the thirst.

2) To swallow phlegm

3) To do sins during the fast is really bad. The fast is still valid, but you should not do them.

4) Donating blood if it makes you weak.
5)Brushing teeth with toothpaste. If you swallow it, it will break your fast.

6)To fast without having suhur.
D) Things that don't break the fast

1) To vomit naturally (without drinking it)

2) To force yourself to vomit, and it is less than a full mouth

3)Eating while forgetting that you are fasting

4)To put water in your ear
5)If food is stuck in your mouth from suhur, and it is less than the size of a chickpea, it would not break your fast if you swallow it.
