(2) unlawful assembly on 18/8/2019, while former lawmakers Au Nok-hin & Leung Yiu-chung have earlier pleaded guilty to the same charges - they faced a female judge who didn't buy their bull - judge will hear mitigation pleas on 16 April before passing sentence
(3) their defense lawyers had argued that the activists were only taking part in the procession "to help disperse the crowd", but the judge noted that some of the defendants were among those carrying a huge banner at the front of the march (see pic below)

(1) Basic facts about Hong Kong - a unique city like no other in the world- a part of the great nation of China after 156 years of British colonial rule

Hong Kong (the past) - 1842 ceded to Britain after signing of the unequal Treaty of Nanjing that ended the 1st Opium War
(2) In 1840, Britain went to war with China over trade & drug trafficking - while British officials tried to play down the illicit origins of the conflict, opponents gave it a name that made the link quite clear: the Opium War

(1) a 21-year-old Education Uni student who was training to be a teacher in Hong Kong was jailed for 4 years today for rioting in Tsuen Wan & Sham Shui Po in 8/2019 (took the MTR train to take part in rioting in two districts on the same day) - judge said

(2) that although he didn't threw any petrol bomb, he actively encouraged those taking part in the riots to assault the police - the defense asked the court to consider his young age (19 at the time of the riots), hoping to have him sent to a re-education centre for delinquent
(3) youth - judge said that given the seriousness of the case & the need to hold him criminally liable for his acts, the age of the defendant took relatively less significance, & imprisonment was the only option, even though he pleaded guilty

(1) the 1st HK national security trial will be conducted by a panel of 3 judges in the High Court without a jury on 23/6/2021 - defense lawyer asked the High Court to delay the trial in order to seek judicial review of the judge's decision to hold the

(1) HK pro-independence advocate Tony Chung, founder of Studentlocalism, who is facing natiional security charges (conspiracy to publish seditious material, secession & money laundering), remained in custody in Hong Kong today after judge denied bail until the next hearing on
(2) 1 June (pre-trial on 16 August also scheduled)

Tony Chung & another youngster sought asylum at the US Consulate in Hong Kong in December 2020, yet the Consulate staffers just said "let's keep in touch" as they were rejected

(3) Tony Chung is currently serving a four-month sentence for desecrating the national flag
