In addition to @Vince_Lago, the signers are a who's who of prominent Miamians — lawyers, lobbyists, politicians, a restauranteur — including ex-Miami-Dade Commissioner @BarreiroFL, who confirmed that he and his wife, former county commission candidate @ZBarreiroFL, signed it.
The name of former GOP @RepJoseOliva — who referred to pregnant women as "host body" 5 times in a TV interview and donated $800,000 to Proud Boy state rep candidate later arrested for storming the Capitol — appears but he did not reply to calls to confirm. miamiherald.com/news/politics-…
The letter says the school "experienced criticism this summer,” a reference to the Instagram account “Being Black at Carrollton," launched in June after George Floyd's murder, to share anonymous stories of discrimination experienced by students of color: instagram.com/blackatcarroll…
The school, to its credit, attempted to address the concerns of these students with new initiatives on diversity and racial justice. But the 155 parents and alum who allegedly signed this letter were upset about @CarrolltonSH's efforts to focus on inclusivity. #BecauseMiami
The signers of the letter reject concepts like "racial equity" as "Tired atheist tropes" and "subversive ideology" that "will lead @CarrolltonSH down a limitless destructive path wherein the pursuit of the metrics of ‘diversity’ will be upheld as the moral imperative.”
Perhaps the reason Coral Gables Commissioner and mayoral candidate @Vince_Lago has not spoken out against the anti-Semitic tag "COMMUNISM IS JUDAISM" that is popping up all over the city is because, consistent with this letter he signed, he agrees with the sentiment.
