A detention hearing for Daniel Rodriguez is now underway in a California courtroom. Rodriguez has waved his appearance, and a lawyer is representing him. huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
NEW: Daniel Rodriguez — who electroshocked D.C. Police Officer Mike Fanone — has been ordered detained ahead of trial. Defense didn’t put up a fight. Judge cites video evidence, and orders Rodriguez transported to D.C. huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
It was a pretty quick hearing. The government proffered video that shows Rodriguez using electroshock weapon as well as pretrial report recommending detention.
Government lawyer explained that, though it sounds “unusual,” Rodrigquez’s 1361 charge (for smashing out a Capitol window) qualified as an act of terrorism under 2332b. So the presuption of detention applied. Judge also said Rodriguez was a risk of flight. huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…

Latest FBI affidavit: "an image search… via an open source search…"

An “image search,” you say, huh? Suppose that’s one way to put it.

Anyway, here’s my story with @JessReports on the role of facial recognition in the Capitol manhunt:

huffpost.com/entry/facial-r…
From @kashhill’s piece on facial recognition: "detectives in Alabama and Florida who collaborate with the bureau at real-time crime centers said they had identified possible rioters using Clearview and sent them to the F.B.I.” nytimes.com/interactive/20…
An “image search” does not get you from one image of a suspect to a completely different photo of a suspect wearing a different outfit, (even if he is wearing the same hat).

ICYMI: Danny “DJ” Rodriguez was arrested yesterday. He electroshocked DC Police Officer Mike Fanone, who suffered a heart attack. The FBI received tips about him in January, but it wasn’t until HuffPost made an inquiry that they contacted a key witness: huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
Here’s our February 26 story, which was built on the excellent sleuthing work of the #SeditionHunters network. A federal grand jury indicted DJ Rodriguez on March 24, and he was arrested yesterday. huffpost.com/entry/fanone-t…
Read the eight-count indictment here, and stay tuned for Rodriguez’s bail hearing this afternoon: m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_60…

BREAKING: MAGA fanatic D.J. Rodriquez, who tasered D.C. Police Officer Mike Fanone during the Capitol insurrection, was arrested today in Fontana, California.

HuffPost, working with citizen sleuths, revealed his identity last month. Story w/ @JessReports: huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
"The FBI received tips about Rodriguez in January, including one from a man Rodriguez assaulted on video at a Los Angeles-area rally. But it wasn’t until hours after HuffPost contacted the bureau… that the tipster heard from an FBI special agent.” huffpost.com/entry/daniel-j…
The federal grand jury returned the indictment nearly a month after our story ran: huffpost.com/entry/fanone-t…

This trial of white St. Louis police officers charged with beating a Black undercover officer (who they thought was a protester) started with an all white jury over prosecutor’s objections. One alternate jury was subbed in last week, leaving an overwhelmingly white jury in place.

“It’s gonna be a lot of fun beating the hell out of these shitheads once the sun goes down and nobody can tell us apart.” — Boone
“If it was a protester it wouldn’t be a problem at all.”

Matthew Beddingfield of North Carolina is out on bail on an attempted murder charge. He went to the Million MAGA March with his dad, who came back again on Jan. 6 to — as he wrote on Facebook — “take this country back from those commie bastards." huffpost.com/entry/facial-r… Image
