Seriously, though! I mean, SERIOUSLY! The dude's family loses their farm and has to earn money by claiming to know a magic way to find buried treasure. That alone is enough to instantly dismiss the poor chap as a desperate fraud.

The great value of Mormonism is it gives us a clear example of how major religions are formed. Everything is well documented and can be easily traced. A con man with a gift for story-telling and a magnetic personality. Joseph Smith is no different from Jesus, Mohummad or Moses.
Human history has known millions of frauds and prophets. It's a hard job to succeed in. But some do. It's safe to assume that a bastard child born in Judea and faced with many of the same problems Smith had growing up, took pretty much the same approach to building his own scam.
Having said all that, Dominik Hasek was clearly divinely inspired and preached the gospel of true virtue and rebirth encoded in his body movements, and anyone who doubts that is a cursed ovechkite heretic.
