Of all the supposed "gotchas" leveled at Jesse Singal for the sin of his 2017 Atlantic article, one of the dumbest is that there was something nefarious about interviewing parents who'd posted on 4thWaveNow...which was the ONLY place parents of desisters had a voice in 2015-17.
There was literally nowhere else to find that particular group of people back then. It's pathetic (and defamatory) how these people keep flogging the dead horse that 4thWaveNow is "anti-trans" or "a hate group." For some reason, they won't admit the obvious:
We provide a platform for not just parents, but researchers, clinicians, desisters/detransitioners, & others who critically examine the upsurge (particularly) in girls & young women wanting to medically transition in the last 5-10 years. The "hate" libel is just pure projection.
They hate us, not the other way around. If they want to complain, these endlessly obsessed activists should aim their ire at the Atlantic, which excised all mention of 4thWaveNow, as @Jennifer_star one of the parents interviewed discussed in this article. 4thwavenow.com/2018/06/25/wha…
As ever and always, the real message when activists regurgitate this years-long outrage "OMG he interviewed parents affiliated with 4thWaveNow!!!" is this: Parents of desisters, and desisters and detransitioners themselves, don't deserve a voice in the mainstream media. Actually
They don't deserve a voice at all. Even when an obviously pro-trans-rights journalist interviews a few of them in the context of what any sane observer knows was a balanced article on the matter.
Would these same people say a journalist was doing something nefarious in the early days of the trans rights movement, when only one or two sites provided a platform for trans people so that's where said journalist found someone to interview?
More to the point, these activists are oddly silent when not just journalists, but researchers like Kristina Olson only interview parents and kids from affirmative support groups.
This 2019 Substack post by Singal tackled the ridiculous "anti-trans hate group" libel aimed at us (that time, because we were quoted in a @nytimes article about breast binding). It's a good piece for those who haven't read it. jessesingal.substack.com/p/is-the-proce…

Before you say any of this is bizarre or outrageous, consider that this is now the norm, perpetuated by many pediatric clinicians and organizations like Gender Spectrum.
When it comes to medical transition of kids/young teens, it's patently obvious there's an irreconcilable conflict between the "T" & the "LGB." A child treated w/blockers/hormones can't have the "decisive" sexual experiences necessary to realize their sexual orientation.
To know this about young LG youth is not "transphobic." An adult allowed to go through puberty & have some sexual experiences/awareness has the wherewithal to give informed consent to medical transition. Orgs that claim to care about ALL LGBT youth should realize this.
This is rarely discussed--in fact, have not seen it EVER discussed in the media--but it's well known that the coming out process can take many years--particularly for girls and young women. 4thwavenow.com/2016/01/25/the…
The #StopClymer hashtag is trending again. Can anyone explain how *some* ppl in the ostensibly most oppressed minority on the planet suddenly gain MSM notoriety (not to mention actual political power) when they proclaim a new gender identity? nbcnews.com/think/opinion/…
Such nuance, compassion, & wisdom expressed by the woman who made this video.
In the 1st minute, she says her aim is NOT to make life harder for those who benefit from medical transition. *Most* detrans say this...yet they are still too often shut down.
It's in everyone's interest to minimize regretful detransition; that people be as certain as possible before embarking on irreversible hormone & surgical interventions. If some adults regret, it's patently obvious a slow, deliberate approach is needed for minors.
At 8:00: "I later found out my therapist didn't think transitioning was an appropriate step for me, or good for my wellbeing, but she didn't tell me that while I was taking those steps because she was worried about losing her license."
Prominent trans writer thinks it's bad that a major media outlet is finally covering detransitioners, after YEARS of non-stop coverage of trans "struggles & triumphs". Unless you've been living under a rock the last 5-7 years, you couldn't have missed the trans coverage.
...and that's not even mentioning major TV series featuring "trans kids" on Netflix, HBO, and TLC. Let's get real.
And Boylan uses the usual trope that detrans are "rare" (no one knows how many there are) and are "outliers." Advocating for the needs and wants of a beleagured group of "outliers" is AOK until it interferes with your narrative...
