#12 Common Sense – Because Benghazi and Other Reasons

Looking through my books, Common Sense did not jump off the shelf at me this morning. An inkling formed. Sure enough. All his works are now on my Kindle for just $.99. Not even a dollar. Awesome! Image
2) I've shared that it was Ron Paul who introduced me to Bastiat. I don't remember exactly how reading Bastiat threw me back to Common Sense, but it did. I do remember Benghazi. Do you remember how "Because Benghazi" became a point of scorn?
3) I'm embarrassed to confess I supported McCain in '08 and Romney in '12. That is, until Romney failed his duty over Benghazi. Romney's instinct was right. He called it out the moment it occurred. Then the Obama people called him on the carpet and he capitulated.
4) Seriously. Since he was attacked for an inappropriate remark timed inappropriately, he backed off instantly. What a pure coward. I didn't like it, but in my heart I let him off the hook for the moment. He had a mark, but I wasn't ready to pull the plug on him.
5) And Romney did well enough in the 1st debate. I was happy with him. Then came the 2nd. Obama had rightly assessed that Benghazi was his weakness and that Romney was on the hunt. He also rightly assessed that Romney couldn't take the heat of 2 people judging him.
6) I don't think much of Obama. He doesn't impress me much. For his evil purposes though, he did great in that 2nd debate. Romney folded like a rickety, old metal chair when both Obama and Candy Crowley came at him. I knew he lost in that moment. I bet you did too.
7) My libertarian phase was still in front of me at the time, and I never did think much of Ron Paul. But somehow his recommendation of Bastiat at the time smacked me silly. And here's Benghazi, and Obama kicking Romney's butt. Something awakened in me.
8) Susan Rice lied. She went on 5 Sunday Morning shows and lied her butt off on every single one. All it took was the slightest bit of Common Sense to know she was lying. I was shocked. I know, silly me. What could be less shocking than politicians lying?
9) I couldn't have said this then. Something changed in America when politicians came to believe they could lie in the bald face of Common Sense. They don't have to cover. They don't have to apologize. They just lie through their teeth smiling. They...and King George III.
10) It was just a pamphlet. Whenever Paine speaks of his work that's what he calls it. A pamphlet. Maybe the tie to Bastiat's 1850 work was this. He clearly reaches back to America's founding. Allow me to assume you've read Bastiat. I'll now quote Paine. Image
11) "Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT,
12) "our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built on the ruins of the bowers of paradise.
13) "For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform, and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest;
14) "and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him out of two evils to choose the least.
15) "WHEREFORE, security being the true design and end of government, it unanswerably follows, that whatever FORM thereof appears most likely to ensure it to us, with the least expense and greatest benefit, is preferable to all others."
16) Now picture this. This pamphlet was published first as a series of articles in a newspaper, a broadsheet. Picture a coffee house by day, a tavern by night, and men with their drinks in hand listening to every word read in strong, stentorian tones.
17) How much have we lost in a world with production values and 15-second segments, compared to a world where words counted and every thought mattered? Video killed the radio star. News today has killed the truth. Fake news. Tom Paine would have no place, today.
18) Once upon a time in America, reason was our king. That time was the time of Common Sense. To read it, you must slow your mind. You must chew upon the words and ideas and fight with them as with an older brother.
19) In your county you have a sheriff. It is his job to ensure that the laws pass the common sense test. They must be Constitutional, both Federal and State. And they must make...common sense. He may not know he has this power and obligation, but he does.
20) What about you? Do you know that your own personal common sense is as critical to America as any other soul's? This is the lie they've perpetrated. Your thoughts do not matter. Your common sense is false. That is their lie.
21) Because Benghazi. We know with 100% common sense clarity that 4 true American heroes died over Hillary's evil plan that night. We know that laws were broken. We know that evil doers are given evil protection. We know Susan Rice lied. It's just common sense.
22) You have a mind. You are a soul. You are alive and can think common thoughts. You need not be a genius. You need not be special. Maybe you are, but no matter. Specialness, genius is NOT the point. With common sense any normal bloke can get there.
23) That any normal bloke can get there is Tom Paine's ultimate point. What is fair? What is right and good? Any normal, common sense thinking person can get there. When your government demands you obliterate your mind, it is evil.
24) The most important revolution in all of human history took place in 1776. It couldn't have if it weren't for Tom Paine's work. Imagine that. Why not? America's mind was not quite made up, yet. Paine made up our mind. His work made up our mind.
25) Please read his work. Bring it forward to 2021. Make it real, now. Bring it down to your own county. What is the common sense of county this, county that, throughout the land? Read Paine. Feel pain.

Do something about it.

Local Patriot’s Intense Studies

Yesterday, we completed introductions to all 12 books on the list. Today we're going to discuss intense studying, a type of extraordinary ownership. Image
2) As I read book 3, The Office of the Sheriff - A History, a vision struck me. I saw a civilian citizen of the county who dedicated himself to being a true friend to the sheriff, and thereby to the county itself. I know the power of just one friend.
3) If you were following along, you worked through various attacks on the challenge until the current reading list clarified itself. It kind of arose, if that makes sense. Now that we've completed the introductions, a new question arises.

#11 America First – The MAGA Manifesto

Where Alinsky - #10 - is hard to read, my own and @KateScopelliti’s book is hard to introduce. I have struggled with promoting our book. And yet, our book is critically important.

2) To understand our book, you need to watch a Trump rally. Grand Rapids, Michigan, the early morning hours of November 8, 2016. Trump has perfected his message in every possible way. He has perfected the MAGA message.

3) The art of the rally. Who remembers that the media tried to tell us that Trump rallies would NOT generate votes? Oh, they said, anyone can go to a rally and be entertained. Will they vote? Of course not, we were told. Rallies don't generate votes, we were told.

The #ConstitutionalAlinskyProtocol

Here again are Alinsky’s Rules. We will move on tomorrow. Today, we plumb them just as rules, as if they were more than right, but FOR the right. I claim them, for us, for the US. Please imagine.
2) First, here they follow in Tweetable format. I'll simply employ a slightly different format. We'll pick up on our discussion after.

#10 Alinsky – The Hardest Read Of All

Don’t get me wrong. Alinsky can be disarming, charming, funny, always intelligent, often brilliant, and always a good writer. He’s not a great writer, but a very good one.
2) I can't claim that Alinsky is a great thinker. I do not place him in the same category as Qiao & Wang, let alone Machiavelli or Sun Tzu. Thing is, where they are strategic he is tactical. I'll pull that back in a bit, but it works.
3) Actually, I'll pull it back right now. Alinsky may be one of the world's greatest strategic tacticians. His tactical thinking and execution is ALWAYS driven by a strategy, and he always knows what that strategy is. To capture the full profile, you'll need both his books.

Desert Storm – The Pivot Point For Unrestricted Warfare

Who remembers Desert Storm? I wasn’t paying much attention until Bush 41 left Saddam Hussein in place. I also didn’t approve of Clinton’s ongoing No-Fly Zone strategy. What for? Take out Saddam.
2) Not paying very much attention, and not even realizing how hawkish a person I had already become - remember, I hadn't left my pacifism stage consciously yet! - one thing I couldn't possibly have done was think about it geopolitically.
3) Our two brilliant authors, leading a completely different kind of life of course, spent most of the remainder of the 1990s doing just that. They analyzed - and report their findings in the book - Desert Storm from a very profound perspective.
