Getting ready for week 2 of witness testimony in #DerekChauvinTrial. A reminder where we left off Friday w/ testimony of long-time #Mpls police Lt Richard Zimmerman. Today, expecting Chief Medaria Arradondo on the stand. He has called what happened to #GeorgeFloyd "murder."

Judge Cahill is back on the record. We are certainly lacking details. But Cahill has ruled there was "no jury misconduct" after speaking to the panel w/ audio & video shut off. So we'll figure out what that was about. But certainly some drama already this AM. #DerekChauvinTrial

State has just informed the court it has two (2) use of force experts above & beyond several officials w/ #Mpls police department. Judge Cahill expressed some frustration with that idea. Explaining at this point, it feels like piling on. #DerekChauvinTrial #GeorgeFloyd

State has callled Dr. Bradford Wankhede Langenfeld, of Hennepin County Medical Center to the stand. Dr. Langenfeld officially pronounced #GeorgeFloyd dead at the hospital. He testifies that he tried to resuscitate Floyd the night of May 25, 2020. #DerekChauvinTrial

Dr Lagenfeld testifies #GeorgeFloyd was in "cardiac arrest" upon his arrival at HCMC hospital. Says in lay terms, Floyd's heart was stopped. The doctor explained that you try to get a heart to pump on its own when a patient arrives in such a condition. #DerekChauvinTrial

Dr Lagenfeld recalls being told by arriving paramedics that #GeorgeFloyd was being "detained" by police at the time of the "medical emergency." Testified there was NO discussion upon patient hand-off of either a *drug overdose* or *heart attack.* #DerekChauvinTrial

Dr Lagenfeld details the H's & the T's of Advanced Cardiac Life Support in relation to #GeorgeFloyd heart condition upon arrival at HCMC. The doctor, pair of paramedics & a firefighter EMT have all testified Floyd appeared to show no signs of life during emergency medical efforts

UPDATE: Judge apparently asked jurors about a social media post earlier this AM. Did they say something like that? Also asked whether jurors recognized a certain person pictured in a court handout? No & no. Cahill chalks it up to social media nonsense, finding no jury misconduct

#DerekChauvin defense attorney Eric Nelson w/ an aggressive cross examination here, getting Dr Langenfeld to acknowledge that low oxygen levels & high Carbon Dioxide amounts found in #GeorgeFloyd consistent w/ fentanyl & other drug use.

Here's our 1st look at Chief Arradondo on witness stand in his MPD uniform. "Rondo" fired #DerekChauvin & the 3 other officers the day after #GeorgeFloyd deadly arrest. In the past, he has called what happened outside Cup Foods as "murder." #DerekChauvinTrial

Prosecutors display Rondo's rank history at MPD. On direct exam, chief says law enforcement training at the academy has come a long way since he started his career in 1989. Was also asked about the department's motto "To Protect with Courage, to Serve with Compassion."

If you saw Chief Arradondo stand up on witness stand to positively ID #DerekChauvin at defense table, it's worth noting again how #COVID courtroom configurations have changed the layout. I noted when I was inside, it's hard for Chauvin to make any kind of eye contact w/ witnesses

Chief Arradondo asked about MPD ethics & professional standards, specifically bulletpoints #1 & 3 below- "Be courteous, polite & professional." And
ensure that the length of any detention is no longer than necessary to take appropriate action for the known or suspected offense."

Arradondo now talking about MPD's de-escalation policy as court moves towards its mid-day lunch break. Prosecution just had him read the 1st line to jury here, where officers are Threatening Use of Force. Questioning has not yet specifically addressed #GeorgeFloyd deadly arrest.

With that, #DerekChauvinTrial is on lunch break until 1:30pm. Chief Medaria Arradondo remains on the witness stand under direct examination. #GeorgeFloyd

Back from lunch, #Mpls police chief Arradondo returns to witness stand. Prosecution continues to walk Rondo thru department policy & procedures, specifically "Emergency Medical Response." Chief says his officers have the basics including ABC's - airways, breathing, circulation.

Chief Arradondo on the department's use of force policies below. Now discussing counterfeit bill 911 call that brought officers to Cup Foods on May 25. Says it was a lower level call on the severity scale, describing it as a non-arresting situation on surface. #GeorgeFloyd

Rondo just rattled off several MPD policy violations based on #GeorgeFloyd deadly arrest videos. Says maybe, there's a justification for restraining him in 1st few seconds to get Floyd under control, but officers should have stopped once Floyd stopped resisting & was in distress.

Another member of MPD leadership on stand, Inspector Katie Blackwell. She heads up dept training & came up thru the force w/ #DerekChauvin. She has known him nearly 20 yrs as they were community service officers together. So this training testimony might be a little more personal

Judge Peter Cahill wrapping up court for the day. Tells jury there is an 8:30am hearing on Tuesday that they will not be in attendance to observe. That's the Morries Hall matter and his plan to invoke the 5th. Hoping to resume witness testimony around 9:15am. #DerekChauvinTrial
