Hello darkness, my old friend

In restless dreams I walked alone
Bloodstained floors, and screams of pain
'Neath the blowtorch and the shame
I turned my back on cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by flash of light
They slit my throat
And touched the sound of silence

And in the blowtorch light, I saw
A hundred pigs dead on the floor
Piggies screaming without sound
Piggies dying to be found
Piggies speaking truths that they
Knew would never see the light of day
And no one cared
To hear the sound of silence

"Fools", said I, "You will not know
Violence like a cancer grows
Hear my plea that I might teach you
Listen to my words that I might reach you"
But my words, like silent blood drops fell
And echoed on the dirty floor
Within the sound of silence

And the people paid and paid
To the butcher that they made
And the sign flashed out its calling
For the lives that they were stalling
And the sign said "the words of humans are written in blood"
Of animals like us on walls of mud
And whispered in the sound of silence

But harken now to sounds anew
The gently falling morning dew
Another kind of human coming
To rescue us from the filth and humming
And live we now in peace abiding
No more silence no more culling.
We are safe and home and living
Free... from the chains of Silence
