Insurgents divide individuals into different functions, ranging from attack and defense activities, reconnaissance, filming and telecommunications, mechanics and nursing or logistics
Although women are mainly responsible for wives, tasks of observation and espionage, recruitment and loading of goods are still noticeable. Exceptional cases reported on women handling weapons during attacks, including in command positions.

July 2020, five girls who had been abducted by insurgents during the attack on Mocimboa da Praia town fled from the camp where they were being held. Once free, they told of men and boys being given military training by the insurgents.

Cooperation between the governments is of crucial importance. Borders provide ideal retreat, safe havens and training opportunities for insurgent.

1) Two conflicting narratives, but a concern, Muidumbe Sede not finally cleared from insurgents;
Narrative 1: Insurgents regained occupation, which raises some questions to which I do not have answers for now; and
Narrative 2: People in nearby areas reported heavy shooting from the direction of Muidumbe Sede - which implies insurgent presence and persistent clashes.
Ascertaining exact detail and verification in process.

Zimbabwe stocking fires of terrorism as it dares to support Mozambique in fending off terrorists
aa.com.tr/en/africa/zimb…
Treating the Cabo Delgado insurgency as just a “terrorist” threat, and responding only with force, risks feeding the insurgents’ propaganda – and is likely to be counterproductive.
The response from Mozambique’s security forces has been characterised by coercive tactics and human rights abuses, which risks entrenching local grievances against the state.

Last 24 hours insurgents active in both Tanzania and Mozambique
Three villages in Tanzania's Mtwara province attacked - arson against government facilities: villages of Nanyamba, Lilombe and Tandahimba in the Michanjale district
Unverified - but police barracks also raided
Mozambique: Four villages Nchinga, Miteda, Namacande as well as Pundanhar - Locals spotted insurgents in Muambula and Muatide, in Muidumbe district.
I take no credit for map as this was kindly shared with me.
With rain season already started, we are more than likely to see more attacks north of Rovuma River, insurgents being pushed closer to Palma in search of supplies.
Attacks in Muidumbi is disconcertingly getting closer to Mueada.
Attacks also more than likely push further south.

A deep dive into Cabo Delgado extremism this is not as portrayed in the headline, but more a discussion on contextual realities
businesslive.co.za/fm/features/af…
Always amazed how western perspectives view Africa conflict from an ethnic lens. Ethnicity cannot be ignored as a contextual reality in Cabo Delgado but it is not the only aspect that defines identity and engagement.
Note that since the latter part of 2019 insurgents have not pushed west in the direction of Makonde areas, but south, with for example Quissanga.
