Just had a publisher tell me that because I'm bisexual I'm not part of the LGBT community and not qualified to write about it, so that's something. 😬😬
100% it's because my MC is slutty and whoever read it took offense on behalf of gay people for no damn reason.
"It's clear from your writing you're not part of the community." MA'AM! How do I write more queerly? 🙃
Anyways As Played By Gods will be out sometime this year and the MC is a disaster bisexual who I love so much. It's very gay and very loud and my publisher is LGBT+ owned and ran and only publishes LGBT+ stories so I guess "the community" didn't hate it after all.
Well they're definitely aware since they liked my tweet tagging them. 👀👀
Here's their response. Threatening to sue me. I'll post the original email as well so it's just the facts and not slander.

I wanted to address some reviews I've seen. The fact is, I have no idea why Sea and Flame got marketed as a queer book. It's not. I am sorry for anyone who felt tricked, it wasn't my intention and the fact is I have little control over book marketing (contd.)
I didn't say much because I generally don't respond to reviews. But I think this is a little different and in light of everything I wanted to say something, and it's that I'm genuinely sorry if you feel like you were tricked into spending money. I hate that it couldn't stand...
On its own merits and got shown as something it's not. Anyways, the best queer book I read last year was Criers War. If you're looking for sapphic fantasy I highly recommend it.
