Black SAns ,or any other person outside trans-Atlantic slave trade history, have no moral, political and legal authority to dictate on how victims of this history and its consequences should respond to its violence. For should we do that,is a further violation of victims #Habib
As much as there is a general common pain suffered under colonialism for those who were taken forcefully across Atlantic and those on the motherland, our experiences differ in nuances. As such we need to respect each other on how we respond to this historical facts.
Being Black SAn, the “ N-word” doesn’t evoke same emotions , within historical context, as those who suffered directly. In the same way that “k-word” wouldn’t -for African Americans or British. So,geography, historical context and who says ‘it ‘matter.

Habib doesn’t have to be intentional to be racist. Not even Biko’s definition of “blackness” can save him.His legacy ,as VC at Wits , doesn’t demonstrate anything close to what Biko stood for. History of Indian indentured labour in SA is what he can put claim to without competing
