ON FBI RECORDING:

They are talking about going to talk to Kara via Ouija board.

Farris: I'm really curious what she's going to say. You are too...

YUST: No I'm not...

YUST: Do you understand that this is like the biggest f'up in my entire life?"

@kmbc #YustTrial
YUST: "Imagine that I killed you. That's so f'd up."

FARRIS: "I'd imagine if I were in her situation, I'd want you to come talk to me."

Yust now giving Farris directions. "Take a right....Take a right"

@kmbc #YustTrial
YUST TO FARRIS ON FBI RECORDING: "No one knows this, not even my own father, not my brother, anyone. You are the only person."

@KMBC #YustTrial
"I thought I was going to prison for the rest of my life," Yust said.

"Only way if I will ever kill someone if it's in the military."

@kmbc #YustTrial
"I'm sorry. I should just give up and not talk to you," Yust said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris confronts him about cheating on her.

"That and Kara are the two things if I could take anything back," Yust said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris: "That was a long time ago, it was in the past."

Yust: "I'm definitely not that person any more."

Farris: "Me neither."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, they are getting out of the car. More rustling around.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Sounds like they are now walking together.

Apologies, as I will have to leave for a few minutes again to go talk to our TV audience.

I will pick back up around 5:10 p.m.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Alright -- back. We just missed some rustling around and walking. Now court is in recess. See you tomorrow everyone.

@kmbc #YustTrial
YUST TRIAL DAY 4: Jury just now coming back into the courtroom. We're expecting to hear more of the FBI wire recording by Katelynn Farris, one of Kylr Yust's ex-girlfriends. Farris wore a wire on Feb. 11, 2011.

@kmbc #YustTrial
On the FBI recording, it sounds like Farris is spelling out letters on a Ouija board to try and reach the spirit of Kara Kopetsky.

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI recording: "What about Kylr?" Farris asks.

DIG, she spells out on the Ouija board

"What's happening, Kara?" Farris asks.

RUN.

"From what?" Farris asks.

HI.

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI recording: "Kylr, why is he empty?"

D --

I don't get what you're saying.

"Is there anything you would like to say?" Farris asks.

M-A-Y

"What about May?" Farris asks.

Farris: "Can you ever forgive him? Are you sad?"

Again you can hear a heartbeat.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr on FBI recording: "Are you happy where you are?"

No sound.

"Will I (sic) when I die?"

No sound.

Then, hard to hear what they are spelling.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Kylr says something about the left side of his face.

FARRIS: "Are you touching him right now?"

FARRIS: "Can you tell us where you are?"

"S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G H-E-R-E," Farris spells.

Again, this is when they use a Ouija board to contact Kara.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr: Am I cursed?

Hard to hear after this...

@kmbc #yusttrial
More rustling...

KYLR: "Oh my God. I just like felt her hand on my shoulder. She didn't say anything, but I heard her voice"

KYLR: "It was her voice."

KYLR: "I promise I will come back and see you Kara."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Accused killer Kylr Yust on Thursday listens to an FBI audio recording made by his ex-girlfriend Katelynn Farris. Farris wore a hidden wire while taking Yust to a spot in the woods where he allegedly buried Kara Kopetsky to contact her via a Ouija board.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr Yust took his ex-girlfriend Katelynn Farris to a spot in the woods to try to contact the spirit of Kara Kopetsky on Feb. 11, 2011. Ultimately, it was not the same spot a mushroom hunter found the remains of Kara Kopetsky and Jessica Runions.

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI RECORDING:

They are now driving again.

KYLR: "I f'ing killed her and left her out...(sic)."

FARRIS: "Like she said she's not mad at you.
That's all that matters."

KYLR: "She's gotta know that she's not alone. I hate myself."

FARRIS: "Don't"

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI RECORDING:

YUST: "I hope it amounts to something someday."

FARRIS: "Everything amounts to something someday."

YUST: "Let's get coffee."

FARRIS: "OK."

Farris is coughing again.

KYLR: "You really need some cough drops."

@kmbc #YustTrial
KYLR: "We should've smoked a joint while we were there."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, they're at a coffee shop.

Kylr orders. Hard to hear what he ordered.

@kmbc #YustTrial
They're talking about picking scabs off Farris's ears, now.

"Let it be, let it be, let it be, let it be..." Yust starts singing a Beatles song, presumably talking to Farris about leaving a scab.

@kmbc #YustTrial
COFFEE CLERK: Four dollars even.

YUST: You can just keep the dollar for a tip.

@kmbc #yusttrial
FARRIS: "Where to?"

YUST SINGS: "You can do whatever you like."

Yust makes a phone call to someone to ask for some spare jewelry.
Person on phone is giving him a dentist chair, as a tattoo chair.

YUST: "I'll have a professions a** f'ing dentist chair in my apartment."

@kmbc
YUST: “This really turns you on that I killed a girl?”
FARRIS: "It doesn’t really turn me on.”
YUST: "Why were you saying all that bulls**t one day, just because you were trying to get me to confess?"
(I missed what Farris said after this)
Then, they move on.

@kmbc #YustTrial
As they are driving around, still...

Farris: I’m nasty.

Yust: You are sexy.

Farris: Inaudible

Yust: I just want to get all up on that.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, we're just into inaudible rustling. Sounds like they're walking and moving.

CONTEXT: FBI agents had eyes on Katelynn Farris during this entire hidden wire recording on Feb. 11, 2011. They followed her and Yust watching out for her safety.

@kmbc #YustTrial
I believe this could be the 25 minute portion of inaudible rustling on the recording prosecutor Julie Tolle mentioned before the jury came in this morning. Not exactly sure, but it's been quite a while where it's hard to hear.

@kmbc #YustTrial
ON FBI RECORDING:

Yust: "I was about to call while you were in the bathroom."

Farris: "I was about to puke."

Yust: "Let's go get some food."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, they're listening to a song together. The audio is very tinny so it's hard to hear what song it is.

@kmbc #YustTrial
On the way to go get something to eat -- sounds like they are driving to Taco Bell.

@kmbc #YustTrial
So far -- the jury has heard at least 5 hours of this FBI recording.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, Kylr Yust is belching in the drive-thru line, and laughing.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Inside the courtroom as prosecutors play a FBI hidden wire recording by Kylr Yust's ex-girlfriend, Katelynn Farris. Seated at left table is Yust's defense team. Cass County prosecutors are seated three-across at the table on the right.

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI wire recording still going...

They're just having conversation while driving, now.

@KMBC @YustTrial
Sounds like Farris just dropped off Yust.

YUST: "Bye, be safe, drive safe. I love you."

FARRIS: "Hey, can you take that with you."

FARRIS: "You have a trash can."

YUST: "What are you talking about."

YUST: "If you find my cell phone in there, come back."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris on phone after she drops Kylr Yust off.

Hard to tell who she's talking to...but presumably FBI.

FARRIS: "Did you get all of it?"

Recording continues.

"Right here?"

Rustling.

Male voice: "Date's 2-10-2011. 3:53 p.m. This concludes our recording."
@kmbc #YustTrial
Morning recess.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Katelynn Farris is now back on the witness stand.

Jury returning.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Cass County Prosecutor Ben Butler now talking to Farris to recap the FBI recording.

Farris says she went to a diner with Yust.

Butler: "Is that where he said "He strangled the f out of her and left her out in the f'ing woods."

Farris: "Yes."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris said they went to Walgreens to buy supplies for the Ouija board.

They went to Barnes and Noble to look up a book on how to make a Ouija board.

Farris said the FBI wire was in her bra.

She had a key-fob wire in her pocket.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris testifies the FBI had a plan to make sure she was safe.

They went back to Yust's apartment to get a planchette to use on the Ouija board.

Then, they go out to the woods to use the Ouija board.

@kmbc #YustTrial
The woods were over by his grandpa's house in Grandview.

Farris guesstimates around 15-20 minutes from Yust's apartment.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris said she parked by the side of the road on a yellow barricade. She said there was a field, and large wooded area by a stream. She said it was winter time and very cold.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris said she was skeptical about this being the spot for Yust to bring Kara Kopetsky's body.

Farris: "I did ask, How do you know this was the spot?"

She testifies Yust said it was because of a specific tree.

(Wasn't the eventual spot where Kara was found)

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris says Yust confronted her after investigators searched that exact spot after the recording.

She denied knowing anything about it to Yust.

Farris said she was not concerned about it.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris now testifying about how she moved back from North Carolina to move in with Kylr Yust. She said it was not a romantic relationship.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now back to the FBI recording.

PROSECUTOR BUTLER: When you're told that Kylr killed someone, was the plan to "run out afraid?"

FARRIS: "I wasn't really told. They told me whenever it ended it ended."

Farris said she wasn't really afraid of Kylr.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Butler: "Katelynn, why did you put yourself through all that and agree to do this?"

Katelynn said she was torn about the hidden wire.

But, she eventually agreed to it.

Farris: "If I was in that position, I would want somebody to do that for me."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Here is Katelynn Farris on the stand, testifying about the hidden FBI wire she wore to get a confession from Kylr Yust, to have him take her to the location of where Kara's body was located in Feb. 2011.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Sharon Turlington -- Kylr's defense attorney is now questioning Katelynn Farris.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Turlington trying to pin down Farris on whether she may have used sexual innuendos on this day.

"You continually let him believe that maybe he could move to North Carolina and move in with you," Turlington said.

Farris: "Yes."

@kmbc #YustTrial
On cross/ex: "He's basically just trying to use every line in the book to get with you."

Farris: "Yes."

He was trying to get you to go to his apartment to have sex, right? Turlington asks.

"Probably," Farris said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris said she and Yust left a box of chocolates and cigarettes in the woods for the spirit of Kara Kopetsky.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Farris is now excused from the witness stand.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Seth Duncan, previous roommate of Kylr Yust and Farris' girlfriend in 2011, now testifying.

He testifies he accidentally overdosed on heroin so it is hard for him to get his words out.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Prosecutor Julie Tolle: "But you have everything actually still in your brain."

Duncan: "Yes."

@kmbc #yusttrial
Seth Duncan testifies Kylr Yust confessed to him to killing Kara Kopetsky.

Prosecutor: "Can you tell the jury what he did to Kara Kopetsky?

Duncan: "That..."

Prosecutor: "Just take your time, it’s OK."

Duncan: "He got into an argument with her."

@kmbc #yustTrial
Prosecutor: "He told you that he got into an argument with her. And, what did he tell you he did when he got into the argument with Kara."

Duncan: "It escalated."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Duncan: "Before he knew what happened, she wasn’t breathing any more," testifying about what Yust told him.

Prosecutor: "Did he tell you that he quote unquote choked her out."

Duncan: "Yes"

@kmbc #yusttrial
Prosecutor: "What did you tell her he did?"

Duncan: "That he just sat there...he stared in her eyes for a while."

@kmbc #yusttrial
on cross ex.

Yust defense attorney Sharon Turlington trying to pin down why Duncan went to police. She's trying to get him to say he only went to police after he spent the night at Katelynn Farris's house. She says it was weeks after Kylr confessed to him.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Here is Seth Duncan on the stand.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Duncan is now excused.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jack Kruse(sp?) now on the stand.

Former bandmate of Yust.

He said he saw an argument between Kylr and Kara. Yust came out of a room and smashed a glass picture, he said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
I'll call him "Jack" until I figure out the spelling of his last name.

@kmbc #YustTrial

Jack is now testifying about a picture of the band taken at a friend's grandfather's property.

Quick testimony.

Done.
Aaron Capanetto now on the stand. Former friend of Kylr Yust.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Here's a picture of the band from previous testimony

@kmbc #YustTrial
Capanetto now testifying about talking to Yust staying at his place with Candice Matthews (St. Clair).

Candice and Kylr had been staying for a couple days.

He came back one night without her.

Intoxicated. Bottle of whiskey.

Upset.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Capanetto said he knew about Kylr and missing girls.

"He admitted to me that he had killed Kara that evening," Capanetto said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Capanetto said Yust told him he didn't come back with Candice Matthews because she left Yust.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"He asked me if I had every loved somebody so much that I would rather see them dead than with somebody else," Capanetto said.

Capanetto: I said no.

Capanetto: "He told me that he killed Kara and he strangled her."

@kmbc #yusttrial
Capanetto: He told me that she wasn't the only one he had ever killed.

He said he was going to leave behind a folder of evidence of locations of bodies, that he was going to have a concert and kill himself.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Capanetto is pictured on the stand.

He said he contacted police about the Kylr Yust's confession in 2016 after Jessica Runions went missing.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Capanetto on cross/ex. says he is a DJ, and a music producer.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Capanetto said he has played music at several BDSM (don't Google it) events in Kansas City.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hard to know where Turlington is going with setting this up.

@kmbc #YustTrial
He is now asking Capanetto about Candice Matthews. Says he saw Candice yesterday, but hadn't seen her in years.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Turlington now cross/ex. about Capanetto's conversation with Yust when he admitted to killing Kopetsky.

He wanted us to work on a music project where he would kill himself, and he would leave evidence behind on where he left other bodies.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"I do recall him basically wanting to make a music project where the finale would've been him killing himself," Capanetto said.

As for Kopetsky, Yust did not tell Capanetto any specifics, Capanetto said.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Yust attorney "So this is like drunken ranting about being a killer?"

Capanetto: "Yes."

@kmbc #yusttrial
Capanetto testifies he was on probation for selling pot.

"If you truly believe that someone was a murderer and danger to other people, you wouldn't want anyone else to get hurt?" Turlington said.

Capanetto: "That's true"

@kmbc #YustTrial
Turlington: You did not come forward until 2016.

Capanetto: True.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Redirect.

Prosecutor: Do you feel pretty horrible about the fact that you didn't come forward?

Capanetto: "It's one of the worst things that ever happened to me."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecutor Julie Tolle: "The fact you didn't come forward is something that you have to live with for the rest of your life, right?"

Defense objection.

No further questions.

The question hangs.

Lunch break...

@kmbc #YustTrial
Correcting the spelling on Caponetto. Court documents have it spelled with an "a"

@kmbc #yusttrial
BACK FROM LUNCH: Witness Nick Kirkbride, friend with Caponetto.

Kirkbride said Yust admitted to him he killed girls via asphyxiation.

"I remember him saying I knew I was the devil when I strangled the life out of them," Kirkbride said Yust told him.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kirkbride said Yust told him about a plan to kill himself at a concert. Saying he wanted to blow his brains out with a gun.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kirkbride said he told someone. Eventually a detective came to Excelsior Springs, where he lived, to talk. Said he agreed to come in to talk to police.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kirkbride testifies he originally didn't go to police because a serial killer had threatened to kill him.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Cross/ex.
Kirkbride said he went to visit Kylr Yust after he got out of prison to give his painting back.

Turlington, Yust's defense attorney, now trying to pick apart why Kirkbride did not go to police.

Some tense moments between Kirkbride and Turlington, now
@kmbc #YustTrial
Nick Kirkbride on the stand.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kirkbride is really digging in here with Sharon Turlington.

The tension in both of their voices is very strong.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, back to night of confession by Kylr to Aaron Caponetto. Kirkbride testifies Kylr was upset.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Testifies he was sober with Aaron Caponetto. Yust, very drunk.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Turlington says sometimes he's talking about "I love you guys. At other times he's talking about being a serial killer."

@kmbc #YustTrial
"After this happened, and threatened to kill you, you didn't call the police the next day?" Turlington said.

"No, because he threatened to kill me," Kirkbride said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Turlington trying to drive home point about him going back to Kylr Yust to give a painting back after he got out of jail.

"And then I never talked to him, or saw him again for the rest of my life," Kirkbride says forcefully into microphone.

@kmbc #YustTrial
More back and forth about giving painting back to Yust.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kirkbride done.

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI Special Agent John Hauger now on the stand. Has a specialty in cell phone records to:

- Show where a phone was.
- To find a phone.
- To teach state and local law enforcement.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger said he worked on the Kopetsky case, in part, first in 2009.

He was given the full records in 2017.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger said he was asked to assist several times.

Says he was involved in the Katelynn Farris wiretap.

"Very, very nervously," describing his agency's demeanor on the wiretap. "Not much sleep was going on that night."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger says FBI lost connection with Farris during the wiretap.

When Katelynn went into woods, transmitter stopped transmitting, Hauger said.

Says there was a plane circling above Farris and Yust to keep an eye on her.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Talking about cell technology during disappearances

Says Kara was the era of 2G.
Jessica was the era 3G.
Today we are 5G.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger sounds like he is now going to testify about Kara's cell phone records on the date of her disappearance.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger now talking about Kara Kopetsky's cell phone records.

@kmbc #YustTrial
9:13 a.m. Kara outgoing call to 816-682-#### - Kylr Yust's phone.

Discussion regarding billed calls.

Cingular billed two minutes of air time for the call.

At least 61 seconds of airtime was used here.

Call could be billed for a very long voice mail.

@kmbc #YustTrial
9:20 a.m. May 4, 2007 incoming 816-682-#### from Kylr to Kara.

Was a 1 minute billed call.

Prosecutor: "When is the very last call that Kara Kopetsky ever makes?"

Hauger: "10:25 a.m. on the 4th."

Prosecutor didn't establish who this was. May come back.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Looking at maps now, talking about Kara's phone calls made at night. Most likely around Kara's house.

Next morning, 5-4-2007, Kara's phone was in the area of a tower near Belton High School.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Page 10 -- last activity of cell records. Same tower, but facing away from the home and high school.

This is referencing the 10:25 a.m. phone call on May 4.

Signal has moved away -- facing northeast of cell tower.

Signal before was facing south.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger talking now about data usage just after 1 p.m. on Kara's phone.

Says it's hard to decipher data location with AT&T.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Was there a call made by Kara at night on 5-4-2007?

Hauger says not from the records he sees.

@kmbc #Yusttrial
Now talking about Kylr Yust's T-Mobile phone records.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr Yust has calls on 5/3/2007.

Big gap

Kylr Yust cell calls pick back up in evening on 5/4/07.

Nothing earlier in the day.

@kmbc #YustTrial
T-Mobile was going from 2G to 3G. Back in 2007. Type of report used by T-Mobile didn't capture all cell sites.

"There's no way for Law Enforcement to obtain records that don't exist, right?"

Calls happened.

It's incredibly bad luck.

Why was there gap?

Yust attorney Matt Vigil now talking about a call on 1:03 p.m. on 5/6/2007. (I missed which phone this was for).

@kmbc #YustTrial
FBI Special Agent John Hauger on the witness stand talking about cell phone records for Kara Kopetsky and Kylr Yust.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Yust Attorney Matt Vigil going back and forth with Hauger about why there is no location records for Yust's cell phone on 5/4.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger again says he wasn't given complete cell records to review until 2017.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Were Kara and Kylr's phone together at the same time?

Because of the gap, due to older system, Hauger said we can't tell.

Hauger: Don't know where Kylr's phone was between 5:11 pm. on 3rd, and 9:56 p.m. on the 4th.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hauger: We know Kara's phone was used after 1 p.m. on 4th. A text message.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Outgoing text at 1:06 on 5/4.

Prosecutor: Does that mean Kara Kopetsky sent that text?

Hauger: "We don't know who was touching her phone."

Tolle: "So anyone could've sent that text message?"

Objection.

"including the last person seen with her?"

NFQ.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jamie Runions now on the stand.

Prosecutor: "Why are you here today?"

"My daughter was murdered," Runions said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"She used to call me a mama bear, but she was a mama bear herself."

She took care of her little sisters.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Jamie Runions testifies about September 8, 2016, when Jessica went missing.

Jessica sent a FB message to Jamie.

Last actual text was a group text the night before.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions testified she planned to see Jessica on Sept. 9, 2016.

She had a follow-up appointment after an appendectomy to be able to return to work.

Scheduled around 2pm.

Runions was going to go to appt with Jessica.

Jessica's car wasn't at her house.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Called her. Texted her. Called Jessica's boyfriend.

Went straight to voicemail.

Text was "green like it didn't send."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions said it was not like her. So she started panicking.

She called everyone she could think of.

She eventually got a call from Jessica's boyfriend after 7pm.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jackson tells her she was going to a friend's house.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions then filed a missing persons report.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions: "It was the longest seven months of my life. Her father and I would search."

Runions: "We would search every night. We searched hot cold rain snow, we searched every chance we could get."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions: "The community was absolutely wonderful to help search."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, talking about missing person report she made for Jessica.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions testifies the Beckfords (Kopetsky's family) called her about missing remains found.

"Because we were close," she said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Runions is NOT cross-examined by defense.

Her testimony is done.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Recess over.

Jaxon Mallett on the stand. Jaxon was Jessica's boyfriend.

They met at Foxwood, a senior retirement center where they worked.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jaxon said he cut off contact with Yust after he learned Runions and Yust were sleeping together.

She remained living at Mallett's house.

@Kmbc #YustTrial
He said Yust would come over to their house banging on the door for Runions. He said it happened 3 or 4 times.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"It made me concerned. If somebody's coming to my door and banging on it incessantly, it made me concerned," Mallett said.

He said he was concerned for Runions when this happened.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Mallett said she left for a friends house the last time he saw her on Sept. 8, 2016.

He texted her about some things throughout the night.

Eventually she stopped texting back.

Last contact was at about 10 p.m.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Next day, he texted her mom on the morning of Sept. 9, worried.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Cross/ex. Attorney Matt Vigil starts talking to Mallett about Runions' marijuana use. Proseuction objects.

@kmbc #YustTrial
*prosecution* I need a coffee.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Mallett done with testimony.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Tiffany Vess is on the stand now. Knew Runions and Yust. Allyn Alvarado was her best friend. (Alvarado's house was last known location of Runions at a party).

@kmbc #YustTrial
Vess testifies Yust got angry about getting locked in a room at the party.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Vess testifies she, Allyn, and Jessica went into Allyn's bedroom to smoke weed.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Ben Butler, prosecutor: How was Yust around Jessica when you went back outside?

"I remember him being very clingy toward her."

"He was kind of all over her, kissing, hugging, stuff like that," she said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"There was one point where he was near her and they had fallen back and they had fallen near the fire pit, they almost got burned," Vess said.
Said Jessica eventually said she wanted to leave.
re: Yust: "I remember him being pretty passionate about it and angry."
@kmbc #YustTrial
"He said are you just going to go back to Jaxon?" Vess said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Vess says Yust grabbed Allyn really hard. She says Allyn asked Yust to leave. Said it was out of the ordinary for Allyn to kick Yust out.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Vess says Jessica was driving as they left, but hit Allyn's mom's car.

Said Yust was sorry, and said he would pay for it.

Vess says she didn't notice any injuries on Yust's face or hands.

Now cross ex.

I am going to do my live shot.

Back around 4:10.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Allyn Alvarado on the stand, talking about Yust becoming aggressive toward him at his house.

Says Yust grabbed him by his arms and shoulders and dug his nails into his skin. Alvarado said he had scars from it.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Alvarado said he asked them to leave around 11 p.m.

Says he messaged Jessica after Yust became angry with him.

Alvarado said, "You guys have to leave, now."

@kmbc #YustTrial
SUV goes in reverse and hits his mom's car.

"I noticed it was Kylr who was driving," Alvarado said.

They switched roles. He's completely intoxicated.

Jessica was driving when they left.

Alvarado asks Jessica to call him.

Never heard from her again

@kmbc #YustTrial
Alvarado called Yust to say Jessica did not go to her appointment the next day.

"He said that she had dropped him off, told him to f'off, and she left," Alvarado said.

He says Kylr did not offer to come help look for her.

@Kmbc #yusttrial
Defense cross ex. of Allyn Alvarado.

Sharon Turlington again. Doesn't turn on mic. She's done that multiple times in case.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Alvarado testifies it was a surprise Kylr came over with Jessica.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Turlington: "Kylr that night was basically a drunken idiot."

Alvarado. "No. He was drunk but I wouldn't call him an idiot."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Next witness is not being identified. Just initials...due to personal issues, says proseuctor Julie Tolle.

Worked with Kylr Yust at Complete Bumpers in KCK.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Witness says Kylr Yust arrived before him at work on Sept. 9, 2016.

He saw Yust's scratches on his face.

He says Yust wanted to leave and didn't want to be there.

Testifies Yust left work early.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Molly Hastings, Yust's defense attorney, now cross ex.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Missed most of the cross ex., but Tolle redirects to establish Yust's co-worker did see Yust leave work that day early on Sept. 9, 2016.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Sgt. Eckert KCPD homicide unit now on the stand.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Now reading Jessica's emails she got under a subpoena between Kylr and Kara.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Jessica sends him an email saying sex is an issue with Kylr, that she keeps telling him no, but he keeps pushing.

@kmbc #YustTrial
I missed quite a bit of the homicide detective reading Kylr Yust's emails to Jessica Runions during my live shot.

But, there are quite a few of them she's reading.

"I miss you so f'ing much Jess. I literally hate it when you're upset with me," she reads.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Yust emails here to Jessica:

"Please let me make you happy again. You're the only woman I want to be with," in the email.

Another.

"Jess please talk to me for 5 minutes. Hear me out."

Another...

"...I don't deserve to have you. I deserve to be alone."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Yust emails to Jessica:

"I know you probably don't miss me. But, I'm trying to get you to listen."

"Please talk to me Jess, you're everything to me."

"You're the woman of my dreams."

@kmbc #YustTrial
"We have so much love for each other and consider forgiving me."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr Yust sent a lot of emails to Jessica.

@kmbc #YustTrial
This is just a long string of messages the prosecution is having the homicide detective read from Yust. It's quite a cadence.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Sgt. Eckert now getting ready testifying about a Jackson County jail call she listened to of Kylr Yust.

Defense objects and approaches.

@Kmbc #YustTrial
Jail recording now playing of Kylr and a woman. I believe this his mom.

"I love you very much. I'm not ever going to be out of here, you realize that, right?"

Asks his mom to order him a book.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"I'm sorry that you're jealous of Jessep," mom said.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Sounds like mom and Kylr are arguing about how he was raised.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"Why don't you just admit that you killed that girl," mom said.

*hard to hear what Yust said next.

I believe I heard something similar to this from Kylr -- Do you know what a capital sin is? And not admit it?
Yust throws back that his mom committed adultery.
@kmbc #yusttrial
"Why don't you tell me where Jessica's at...so her family can have closure?" Kylr's mom said.

Kylr says something after, but again, so quick, hard to transcribe.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr and his mom in a serious argument here, back and forth, on this Jackson County jail recording
@kmbc #YustTrial
About how Kylr was raised...

"If you want to blame it on me, I can take it, I can totally take it," Kylr's mom said.

"I did not abuse you," Kylr's mom said, in part.

Kylr: "No, but you neglected me."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr's mom on Jackson County jail phone recording: "So that's why you go out and kill a girl?

"That's part of it." Yust said. "That's part of it."

@kmbc
Kylr's mom on Jackson County jail recording: "So, did you kill Kara, too?"

Kylr: "I'm going to talk to a lawyer today..."

Then more conversation from Kylr.

Mom: "You know what? Bye."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr calls back and says he's sorry.

Mom and Kylr start arguing again about where Jessica is on recording.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Defense cross/ex. Sgt. Eckert. Now talking to her about Ofcr. Joshua Meierer.

@kmbc #YustTrial
After a short cross/ex.

We are done.

In recess...

See you tomorrow everyone!

@kmbc #YustTrial
YUST TRIAL DAY 5: Crystal Taylor is first witness on the stand.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Crystal Taylor is Jessep Carter's former wife. Jessep is Kylr Yust's half-brother.

Taylor says there wasn't much of a relationship between Kylr and Jessep.

Taylor said she met Jessica Runions once in 2016.

@kmbc #YustTrial
CONTEXT: Jessep Carter committed suicide in the Jackson County Jail in 2018. He was originally jailed on a second degree arson charge.

kmbc.com/article/suspec…

@kmbc #YustTrial
Crystal Taylor met Jessica Runions around August of 2016. Kylr and Jessica came to Edwards to visit the family. They stayed the night. The next day, they went to Kylr's mom's house so kids could go swimming. Taylor starts crying. Says her oldest loved Jessica.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Sept. 9, 2016. Taylor and Jessep got up and they took the kids to school.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Back up to night of Sept. 8, 2016, when Jessica went missing.

Prosecutor: If Jessep had been gone and not around, that would've stuck out in your mind?

Taylor: Yes.

Prosecutor: Jessep was with you?

Taylor: Yes.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep and Taylor continued w/day after she first heard Jessica was missing on Sept. 9.
They went to pick up their girls. They took the kids to play in the creek. They went to Kylr's mom's house.
Kylr had called his mom and said he wanted to see his brother.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep Carter and Taylor left Edwards and came up to Kylr's grandfather's house on the evening Sept. 9, 2016, she testifies. Says Jessep was confused on why his brother would need him.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said she probably left Edwards about 5:30. Probably arrived at Kylr's grandfather's house in Raytown around 7-7:30.

They pulled up, and Kylr came out of the house to the car.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said Kylr seemed really rushed and wanted to leave his grandfathers house and wanted to get out of there.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr got in the back seat with them. Taylor says she doesn't remember seeing anyone else when he got in.

They immediately left, she said. They went to Jessep's uncle Paul Andrulewicz's house about 15 minutes away in Kansas City on 59th St.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep and Kylr get out of vehicle at Jessep uncle Paul's house.

Taylor said she got out of car at Paul's house, talked about kids.

Before that, Taylor said Kylr was getting on her about Jessep drinking.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep Carter's former wife Crystal Taylor on the stand.

Taylor says Kylr told her they had broken up a week before. "She just had too many men after her. And what did I have to offer?" about Jessica.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said, then, Kylr got a call.

She overheard Kylr:
"I went to work today, and she was pretty pissed off at me."
"Oh, we haven't seen her."

"You should probably file a missing persons report," and that was end of the conversation, Taylor said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"What I heard him say made me wonder things, because he was the suspect in Kara's case," Taylor said.
"When I heard that, ideas started running through my head." She got scared. Odd, she said, because Kylr told her Jessica broke up with him the week before.

@kmbc #YustTrial
They go back to Kylr's grandpa's house. Kylr walked Taylor to a living area and said she could sit down and watch TV. He went back upstairs like he was going to go talk to Jessep. Taylor had never been down to the basement. Awkward, she said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kylr and Jessep then leave his grandfather's house.

Jessep came down to tell her they were leaving.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said they were gone about 30-45 minutes, but cannot remember.

@kmbc #YustTrial
They got back and Jessep came to talk to her.

"He looked very shocked. Scared. Kind of like mind blown."

Prosecutor: It stood out to you?

Taylor: Yeah, it did. For him to be scared was not like him.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said Jessep said it was time to go home. She testifies they got ready to leave. It was dark. It was late. She said she wanted to get back home to Edwards.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep was driving when they left. She was in the front passenger seat. Yust came out. She said Yust had something in his hands. Cannot remember what it was. He placed it and "hid it" in some bushes, Taylor said. Yust then gets in the car.
Prosecutor: "Were you scared?"

Taylor: "Yes, I didn't know what was going on. If I would say something to Jessep, he would give me a look, likec 'calm down.'"

"I believe Jessep didn't want Kylr to see me scared," she said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor testifies they stopped at Jessep's cousins house in Lone Jack. Anthony Armstrong. When they get there. They got out, went to door. Jessep went inside. She followed. She can't remember if Kylr came in, but said possibly by entryway.

@kmbc #YustTrial
She said Jessep gave her a gun and said, "put this on you."

Discreetly.

Prosecutor: "Did Yust see you get this gun?"

Taylor: "No"

@kmbc #YustTrial
Something said about wet towel, Taylor said.

They were there for about 5-10 minutes.

They traveled home.

Taylor: "Kylr did ask for us to take the batteries out of our phones. He mentioned like he already thrown his out."

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecutor: "What goes through your mind when you're told that?

Taylor: "Still scared."

Jessep and Taylor both took the batteries out of their phones, as directed by Yust, Taylor testifies.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said a cop saw them and started following them.

Taylor says Kylr said the following:

"Oh, God, somebody might as well just f'ing kill me now"

The cops stopped them.

@Kmbc #YustTrial
Cops pulled them over. They all got out of the car. Cops found Taylor's gun. Put her in handcuffs.

Did he tell you why you got pulled over? Taylor said cop said, "You didn't do anything wrong you're allowed to have a gun.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Cops gave Jessep some sort of ticket. Taylor: I'm not for sure, what. Driving suspended possibly? No insurance.

Kylr was talking to one of the police officers. They knew each other. They took the gun. Taylor started driving.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Crystal Taylor said she was scared during the police stop.

@kmbc #YustTrial
They leave the traffic stop.

They got back to Edwards around morning time.

Jessep brought Kylr inside a trailer. Jessep took some non-perishable items to Kylr. The trailer belonged to one of Jessep's life long friends. The trailer had sat empty for a while.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor: Trailer didn't have utilities. The trailer was on a gravel road. Neighbor across the street. Lakefront property.

@kmbc #yustTrial
She and Jessep left. Yust stayed behind in the trailer. They went back to Kylr and Jessep's mom's house.

She said there was a conversation on the way to the trailer. Yust asked Jessep to call his grandpa and he wanted money.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep and Taylor get back to mom's house. Her kids were there.

The police called.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said later that evening, after dark, Jessep and Johnine (mom) gave their statement to police. Taylor said a police officer came to pick her up to give a statement.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecutor: After this day, was this pretty hard on you?

Silence.

P: Did you ever talk to Jessica again?

Taylor: No.

P: Did you ever talk to her parents?

T: No.

P: Did you ever see Yust again?

T: No.

@kmbc #YustTrial
She said after this happened there was a lot of arguing with Jessep.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said she never felt like she was directly accused. She said it was a scary, stressful, hard time.

"We went through a lot," she said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
She said Jessep went downhill in the year after this happened. She said Jessep couldn't let anyone know what happened.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Taylor said she and Jessep had problems at the beginning of their relationship. They met around 14-15.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Here is a picture of the courtroom as Crystal Taylor is on the stand.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said Jessep Carter was charged with a felony for hurting her in the late 2000's. She said Carter had drug abuse issues.

She testifies the events of Sept. 2016 took a toll on their relationship.

In 2017, she said Jessep went downhill. Became abusive.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor and Jessep break up. She goes to a shelter for five months. She eventually reconnected with the kids.

She moved to Blue Springs to live with her parents.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said she broke off contact with Jessep. He would try to contact her, but she didn't respond.

One day, she said her aunt called her to watch the news.

She said she saw Paul's house on fire. She saw Jessep sitting on the curb.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecutor: "What happened to him in the Jackson County jail?

Taylor: He took his own life.

She breaks down crying...

Silence.

Powerful.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecutor: "That day in September. Why did you go along?"

Taylor said Jessep had been drinking. She wanted to be with him.

Prosecution done questioning.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Cross/ex. by Molly Hastings -- Yust's defense attorney.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hastings now getting into the domestic abuse allegation.

Apparently he crawled into Taylor's trunk and took her hostage, according to Hastings' question.

Carter was convicted for kidnapping her.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Hastings questions now getting into Sept. 9, 2016.

She said Jessep was drunk on the way up from Edwards to Kansas City to see Kylr at Al Yust's house.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said when they got to Yust's house. Jessep starts driving.

Now, Hastings reestablishing facts of the timeline.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, timeline goes back to when they returned to Kylr's grandpa's house in Raytown, when Jessep and Kylr apparently leave.

Hastings trying to get Taylor to say she didn't know who was coming and going from Kylr's grandpa's house.

@kmbc #YustTrial
She testifies she doesn't remember how long they were gone.

They get back. Jessep starts driving.

They go to Anthony Armstrong's in Lone Jack.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor testifies she didn't know if Anthony Armstrong was there.

Jessep gives her the gun. No explanation, but asks her to carry it, she testifies.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said Jessep normally carried a knife.

Defense: At no point were you scared enough to use the gun on Kylr?

Taylor: No.

Defense: For Jessep to use the knife on Kylr.

Taylor: No

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, to the traffic stop. 3:25 a.m.

Taylor testifies it took a few minutes for Jessep to pull over.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Second officer who pulls up has his gun drawn as he came up to the car, Hastings said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
"Officer yelled out "gun," during traffic stop.

Taylor testifies she lied to the police about the gun. Hastings said Taylor said her grandfather had passed away and that she inherited it from her G'pa, and she carried it.

@kmbc #YustTrial
More cross ex by Hastings. Back and forth about timeline.

@kmbc @YustTrial
Now, questions about Carter's drug use.

@Kmbc #YustTrial
Now, back to uncle Paul's house and the news footage Taylor saw of Carter sitting on curb at the house as it was burning.

Sounds like defense might be trying to paint Jessep as potential suspect in Runions death for the jury.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Taylor said she went to Jackson County Jail after Carter's suicide.

She asked for his bible, but they wouldn't give it. A white muscle shirt.

Hastings talks about a coded note that he left.

Prosecution objects, and asks to approach.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Cross ex done after a few more questions.

No redirect.

Short recess.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, Detective for KCPD on the stand. I couldn't hear his name.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Detective said he was instructed to go to Raytown, to Yust's grandfather's house, where Yust lived.

He saw in the bushes there was a shirt and plastic trash bag. Collected shirt as evidence. He took the bag to police HQ where he put it into evidence locker.

@kmbc #YustTrial
The shirt is now getting taken out of the evidence bag before the jury.

Detective putting on latex gloves. Looks like it is a red and white striped long-sleeve hoodie. He's holding it in front of jury.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Defense cross/ex. Shirt wasn't hidden, it was just in the bushes. It was between the bushes and the house, detective testifies.
She's questioning about the evidence handling of the shirt.
Detective says when he collected the shirt he put it into a paper bag.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Detective done. Sorry I couldn't capture his name.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now on the stand, Jarrah Kennedy. KCPD Crime Lab DNA analyst.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Kennedy is talking about DNA and examining the red/gray hoodie. She says there was brownish and blackish staining. Four areas of interest from the shirt.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Now, the jury is seeing a picture of the shirt. The entire right side has a brown stain covering the shirt. The right sleeve is tucked in. She said there are "defects" in the fabric.

Kennedy said she eventually established a DNA profile from the shirt.

@kmbc #yusttrial
Kennedy establishing genetic information of Kylr Yust and Jessica Runions from several areas of the shirt.

@kmbc #YustTrial
There is also a potential third profile in the genetic mix on the shirt. Jarrah Kennedy from KCPD crime lab said she cannot provide an assumption of who it is due to the minimal nature of DNA. You can see a picture of the shirt on the screen.

@kmbc #YustTrial
More pictures now with Jarrah Kennedy from KCPD Crime Lab. Kennedy is testifying about a shirt found near bushes at Jessep Carter's uncle's house. Earlier testimony by Crystal Taylor said Kylr Yust hid something in the bushes at this house.

@kmbc #YustTrial
In Matt Vigil's cross ex of Kennedy, she is now talking about doing work on a hammer and hammer head from Kara Kopetsky's case in 2011.

@KMBC #YustTrial
The hammer talk was very brief...

Now the cross/ex. close.

Defense: Was there ever DNA of Jessica Runions on Kylr Yust?
Kennedy: No
Defense: Was there any blood of Jessica Runions on Kylr Yust's clothes?
Kennedy: No
D: Any blood on Kylr Yust's shirt?
Kennedy: No
Galen Smith, who found Jessica Runions, burning Chevy equinox around 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 10.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Smith said he saw flames coming out of an area near the trees. He pulled over and called 911. He could hear fire popping and crackling.

"It was a blaze," Smith said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Smith said he eventually left. He drove back the next day and let officers know he was the one who called 9-1-1.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Smith now on cross/ex. He originally described it as some sort of transformer fire. He said he stayed around to watch firefighters put it out. He came back the next day to check on it. That's when he gave his information to police.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Smith said he did not see anyone coming or going.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Steven McElroy (sp?). He responded to tow Jessica Runions' car. He was dispatched around 1:30-2:00 a.m.
He said Runions' vehicle was off side of the road. He said it was severely burned. He couldn't touch it. He hooked under the car, and had to drag it.
@kmbc #Yusttrial
He said the vehicle re-ignited as he drove it down to the KCPD impound tow-lot.

He dropped the vehicle off.

@kmbc #YustTrial
The next day. McElroy saw the missing person report.

He recognized the vehicle's tag number from the news, but it was one number off.

He contacted police and told them he towed the vehicle the night before.

@kmbc @YustTrial
McElroy done.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Paul Andrulewicz, Jessep Carter's uncle, is now on the stand.

@kmbc #YustTrial
He's talking about his driveway and a burn barrel at his house.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Andrulewicz said he did not talk to Kylr Yust when they arrived at his house on Sept. 9, 2016.
Crystal never got out of vehicle.
He went back inside.
He said he went out to water his garden and trash barrel was on fire. Yust had left 3-5 minutes earlier.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Two years later, Andrulewicz is now talking about his burned house. He said people told him Jessep Carter probably did it.

July of 2018.

Prosecution done.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Paul Andrulewicz said he gave police surveillance video of the day Jessep Carter burned his house in 2018.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Back to Sept. 9, 2016 on cross examination. Paul is talking about burn barrel. He said he never uses gas in the burn barrel. He said he never puts aerosol cans in the burn barrel.

Cross/ex. done.

Lunch.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Back from lunch. Laurie Nelson, KCPD crime scene technician, on the stand.

She processed the scene of Paul Andrulewicz's property. Andrulewicz was Jessep Carter's uncle.

Several pieces of black fabric. Metal buckle in burn barrels.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Nelson also found an Otter brand cell phone case just outside of the barrels.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Here is Kylr Yust and his defense team after lunch.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Deputy Mitchell Lambert (sp?).

Worked for Henry County Sheriff's office.

Sept. 10, 2016, 3:02 a.m. was patrolling city of Windsor.

Got a call to assist a deputy.

He was the deputy had his gun drawn, during traffic stop of Taylor, Carter, and Yust.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Jessep Carter was driving. He stepped out. Passenger was Crystal Taylor.

Kylr Yust was in back seat.

They went to elementary school together.

He instantly recognized Yust.
He says Kylr was "extremely nervous." Yust urinated himself. Yust's knees were shaking. He was white, pale, and clammy, deputy said.

"Major red flags," deputy said.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Cross/ex. Molly Hastings now questioning about whether Yust urinated on himself.

Hastings presses deputy on whether he was an expert to know if Yust urinated himself.

Deputy said based on his experience, that's what he concluded.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecution now questioning deputy about dealing with intoxicated people.
Deputy said Yust's pants looked similar to how other intoxicated people urinate themselves.
Cross ex.
Hastings: "You would agree however..."
Prosecutor Julie Tolle: "May we approach judge?"
@kmbc #YustTrial
Hastings: You would agree to the naked eye, you cannot tell the difference between liquid on someone's pants being urination and a liquid that may have spilled on them.

Deputy: Correct.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Terence Carter Master Detective (Ret.) for KCPD now on stand.

Worked on bomb and arson squad. He is testifying about Sept. 10, 2016. He went to KCPD tow lot to examine Jessica Runions' burned Chevy Equinox SUV.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Here are pictures of Jessica Runions' burned SUV.

1. Front driver's side tire/wheel on vehicle burned.
2. Rear hatch damaged/burned.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Pictures also shown of:

Front portion of vehicle, remains of bumper/hood.

Overall shot from front of vehicle.

Side shot along driver's side rear wheel.

Rear tire/wheel.

All burned...

@kmbc #YustTrial
Detective said the interior had melted down into the floorboard. Metal was damaged and burned.
Wiring, seat covers, dash board, all melted.

It had all become a thick mass of material.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Detective: SUV had a strong odor of gasoline, after investigators started using crow bars to pry up material.

"I determined it was incendiary in nature," Detective Carter said.

Gasoline poured in and around the vehicle. Ignited by an unknown source, he said.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Prosecutors asks about what type of inuries might happen to someone if they were standing close to a vehicle if gasoline is used and a fire started.

Defense objects.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Prosecutor asks again about detective's experience with other injuries from these types of fires.

@KMBC #YustTrial
What about injuries from someone who lit Runions' vehicle, prosecutor asks.

"When it flashes, it sends out a heat wave, burn."

"It can singe hair, cause eye damage..." detective testifies.

@kmbc #YustTrial
Defense cross examining, trying to pick apart differences in injuries from an SUV or a burn barrel.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Prosecution back.
Would someone have to be leaning directly over a burn barrel to get burn injuries to face, etc. ?
Det.: Would channel the blast/fire straight upwards.
So, conclusion would be that someone would have to be standing directly over the burn barrel.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Detective is done.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Deputy Dustin Love with Jackson County Sheriff's office now testifying. Used to work for Benton County Sheriff's office.

Sept. 11, 2016, he showed up to Edwards, Missouri to investigate Kylr Yust.

Contacted by KCPD to help with surveillance of his trailer.

@KMBC #YustTrial
Love saw Yust in backseat of another deputy's vehicle. Love became aware Yust's facial injuries, wanting to make sure it didn't happen from his deputy.
Deputy: As for face injuries, Yust said he ran into tree.
"He was pretty smug and arrogant," Deputy Love said.
@kmbc #YustTrial
Cross/ex. Matt Vigil confronting him about no report, or body cameras.
