Democracy is the biggest lie; only “mock” remains in the democracy. It has been violated by every other form like monarchy, oligarchy & dictatorship donning the cloak of “people’s will”, seizing the entire citizenry when the incumbent’s share was only 39% or like in Delhi 0% 1/12

If we want to course correct, we need to follow the example of some Scandinavian countries; politicians jobs have no fancy perks. If a candidate switches parties after elections, his seat remains with the winning party until the next election, an unalienable people’s verdict 2/12

Manifestos are made to be broken or ignored in our country. That is why we should be keener to think about ways to have accountability checks and paybacks for those who do not fulfil a certain % of their promises in a phased way with priorities clearly spelt out. 3/12

The manifesto should be a legal covenant between the people and candidates with a minimum deliverable contract, which if violated, must be chargeable under treason. The way the country has been raped I see no reason why this should be considered outrageous.

If this were a mandatory part of all manifestos we could take what is in them seriously and those that write them would be cautious.
Now anyone can promise anything. It means nothing. As we see with the ruling party in the centre today 5/12

All public works must be published on a govt website with costs, tender details & names of contractors. Junkets, foreign trips & the like must also have on record number of people accompanying them, cost of trips & a clear account of achievements/benefits to the country 6/12

If not proved, the politician must bear costs of the trip. Public works must have completion dates. Violation must attract fines that come from party funds of the politician concerned. Then regulation of violations will become a party matter & people will not be penalised. 7/12

Politicians and their families use only government facilities for education, health and transport. That way, those who are unhappy with present conditions and have no intention of changing it will not enter the fray.

The law for embezzlement, frauds & scams must ensure stringent punishment. Loss of parliament time must have a penalty & a fine is levied on all members irrespective of party. This is necessary for internal dialogue to stop the circus, indulged in at exchequer expense 9/12

When bills are voted the quorum must be at 100% voting attendance not the 10% it is now. This must be transparent & published, not secret, or a show of hands & voices. No walk outs, screeching or out shouting must be permitted. Those who abstain must send in party reps. 10/12

If we did all this, clamour to buy tickets to the Lok Sabha & Assemblies will crash. Only takers will be those who are seriously interested & honest. The random rapist, murderer, common thief, smuggler, hoarder, tax evading film star & exploiting industrialist will disappear11/12

The true desh bhakts, the nationals, the patriots, will unequivocally emerge who truly want to serve will emerge from this. Which party do you think is anywhere close to achieving this
