This is the same lawyer who defended one of the officers involved in the Abner Louima case, one of the most awful incidents of police brutality in Giuliani era NYC
A few years later, I went to high school in that precinct. The officers were rough. Once they threw a Black friend through a window. A crowd gathered as they arrested him and slammed him on the ground. They arrested bystanders who shouted, covered badges, and joked about Louima.
They arrested a Black friend of mine for simply yelling at them about the violent treatment of our classmate. I did the same but they literally refused to arrest me even as I dared them to. It was Brooklyn's most notoriously abusive precinct.
Thanks to @TonyRenner4 for pointing out this connection

I am beginning to suspect that @MrAndyNgo isn't entirely on the level.
Far right media figures are really latching onto this narrative that gun violence is only covered when shooters are white. This is a great example of how they are willing to lie while making this obviously untrue and racially charged claim.
@ParkerMolloy pointed this specific tweet out before me
The dead US Capitol Police officer's body was just driven in a motorcade down Constitution Avenue. Secret Service saluted ad thr body passed.
Here's more of the procession for the fallen Capitol Police officer. The Secret Service were emotional in a way I have never seen before. Incredibly sad.
Video footage of the processional and salute for the fallen Capitol Police officer on Constitution Ave by the White House.
.@KJP46 has become the first Black woman to hold a White House press briefing in about 30 years.
Here's a picture of her gaggle on Air Force One yesterday.
I took it because I had the sense I was witnessing history.
I recently wrote a story about @JudySmith_, a trailblazer who became the first Black woman to conduct a briefing in 1991. google.com/amp/s/news.yah…
Karine's first gaggle on the plane actually came when Biden went to Atlanta on 3/19. I believe the great @dougmillsnyt may have a photo. But yesterday was her first gaggle that was fully streamed on the White House site since it was the big infrastructure bill rollout.
Some news this morning! I am writing about with my good friend @nycsouthpaw about the rise of the New American Left and its future. We are both incredibly excited to get started and hope it's something you'll all want to read.
This is a time of seismic shifts in our politics. While the turmoil on the right has been exhaustively chronicled there are also transformational forces shaping the left and their story has yet to be fully told. We can't wait to share it with you.
I am incredibly grateful to our rockstar agent @ameliaatlas, our publisher @wwnorton, and the many people who have shared their stories with us. I also could not have done this without the support of my family and my partner in crime @nycsouthpaw.
But there are also more mainstream conservatives sharing this story including from outlets like the Daily Caller and GOP operatives. In some cases, they're cooying videos taken directly from the far right explicitly racist voices including popular Gab and Telegram accounts.
Anyone who truly though Anwar's life mattered, would not use his death to make straw man arguments in some unrelated political argument.
