President Biden: “Gun violence in this country is an epidemic … and it’s an international embarrassment.”
President Biden unveils several new executive actions, his first steps on gun control.

First, he says he’ll reign in “ghost guns,” or kits to build firearms, and have them “treated as firearms under the Gun Control Act.”
Biden nominates gun control advocate David Chipman to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Chipman currently serves as an adviser for the advocacy group formed by former Rep. Giffords (D-AZ), who survived a 2011 mass shooting while serving in Congress.
President Biden calls for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

He adds: “And we should also eliminate gun manufacturers from the immunity they receive from the Congress.”
