3/n Access to healthcare? A pity about the roughly 10 to 15% of the USA that has no medical insurance at all, but who cares about the poors, amirite. Bankruptcies? Who cares. That trans people have the same access as non-trans is simply lied away.

6/n The world of science overall is complex, & slightly weird, relying on long, poverty-stricken internships to enter a well-off middle-class existence. The mixture of idealism & classist defensive materialism can make for a potent gunpowder keg; eugenics was a science endeavour
7/n The world of journeys from bohemian, doctorand genteel poverty to becoming a financially well-off member of society's new priesthood is interesting, but not the point. The point here is how a small, determined clique can wield power in inappropriate ways *within* that world.
8/n In a way, Twitter was *made* for the professionals witch-hunting each other, for academic cliques to coalesce with journalist cliques. Don't believe me? Check who Twitter was made for, journalists, who gets those blue checkmarks. The rest is just consequences.
9/n Does it matter that various are trying to destroy, on a basis of pure lies, Jesse Singal's livelihood? Only if ethical principle matters to you. I can't be bothered appealing to your self-interest, though I've long accepted most can't be bothered with real principles.
10/10 Seen it all before. Seen a man AND his family destroyed over far less, in the name of purifying that strange world of US science. Perps also tried it w/ JK Rowling, but she's self-employed, non-academic, well-off, & much-loved. Anyway, new thread:
