News: Two people working at separate City of #Toronto vaccine clinics have tested positive for #COVID19
The workers were at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre clinic and Scarborough Town Centre clinic. "The City and Toronto Public Health have taken measures to ensure the safety of clinic staff and those with appointments for vaccination."
"The Metro Toronto Convention Centre clinic staff member who has tested positive was on-site at the clinic from April 2 to 5. The staff member from the Scarborough Town Centre clinic who has tested positive was on-site at the clinic from March 31 to April 2."
As a precaution, anyone who was at the MTCC clinic April 2-5 or Scarborough Town Centre clinic March 31-April 2 "should monitor themselves for COVID-19 symptoms for 14 days after their visit. If symptoms develop, seek testing and immediately self-isolate."
IMPORTANT: "All clinic operations are continuing and those with confirmed appointments should attend at their scheduled time." Risk to public was low, workers had PPE; clinics have been cleaned.
More bad news: City of Toronto reports highest one-day increase in COVID-19 cases as Toronto moves into first weekend of new Stay-at-Home order
Toronto "reported 1,304 new cases of COVID-19 – the highest recorded daily increase during the pandemic." The jump is "made more serious by the continued spread of dangerous variants of concern" and shows Ontarians must "stay home to keep each other safe."

Susan Opler, the city of Toronto's ombudsman, says extending her office's oversight to policing will provide "an incredible example" to other cities, few of whom have ombudsmen (advocates for residents who feel ill-treated by city staff or policies) at all.
City solicitor reminds council the auditor general has an agreement with Toronto Police Service, says a similar agreement would be necessary between ombudsman and police.
"We don't intend to hire police-affiliated people" to extend ombudsmen services to the Toronto Police Service, must have independence to investigate complaints, Opler says.

Acting Toronto Police Chief Jim Ramer and Mayor John Tory announce permanent reconstitution of staffed traffic enforcement unit as part of #VisionZero effort to end pedestrian and cyclist deaths on Toronto roads
Sorry for radio silence - my phone didn’t like the rain. Here is the news release - reconstituted Toronto police traffic enforcement squad launching on a permanent basis Nov. 19 with 18 officers incl. 2 sergeants as part of #VisionZero
That release overplays somewhat the news value of the traffic enforcement squad being made permanent. From my story at the police services board last November thestar.com/amp/news/gta/2…

That anyone should suffer this racist BS is blood boiling, but a teen trying to honour his late grandmother? Hope they catch the culprit and there is no acceptance of "it was a bad joke." Whatever their age, anti-Black racism is a hate crime. thestar.com/news/gta/2020/…
I hope people in Pickering and beyond rally around Joshua Telemaque. “I felt destroyed and heartbroken". No wonder.
In Toronto, from yesterday, some good coming from another episode of cowardly, anonymous racism. It really feels like hate is on the march.
