🧵While I have no time for a movie like #BigBull, I still thought now is the time to talk about Mittals from Ludhiana and their Harshad Mehta's connection.
Satpal Mittal was a little different from his traditional baniya community, as he was more inclined towards politics than business. One day while giving his political speech in a college (as a young student politician), he impressed a Girl in the audience- Lalita.
They decided to get married, but there was a problem. While both were Punjabis, she was Kshatriya, and so Satpal's father didn't like this match. Like a lot of Hindi movies, he gave his son a choice-Marry this girl OR choose him. As Satpal took the path of his marriage..
..He was given another instruction: "Don't give your children OUR NAME (i.e their surname -Mittal). So, when the eldest of the three sons (Rakesh) was born, he was named Rakesh Bharti. This is how the now-famous Bharti group got their name!
Anyways, Mr. Satpal was gaining ground in his political venture-starting from Councillor-MLC-State minister, and then as a Rajya Sabha's MP. This is when he got a bit closer to Rajiv Gandhi. In Ludhiana, he is remembered for his meteoric rise -
The son of a paan vendor who became an MP and then as one of the richest men in the town. A few decades later another set of Mittals will start as sweatshop owners to be a kind of Education King-Lovely Professional University. BTW, his Son decided to get into Telecom business.
Now, many of you know how our 'Risk hai toh ishq hai' guy used to love his researches!. So, around 1989, he first approached Sunil Bharti Mittal, to understand more about the Telecom sector in India. Soon, they y started meeting more often, and Harshad discovered his Delhi's Gate
Harshad wanted to move fast, then "Sunil suggested it was necessary to build up political contacts in Delhi to achieve prosperity." So, he decided to meet his father, who then arranged his meeting with Rajiv Gandhi.
Meanwhile, Mr. Satpal main power will come in the era of Narasimha Rao, when as a close aid of Chandra Swami, he got his reputation as a fund-raiser and political fixer. And, most of Harshad's Delhi dealing was via him only (as per the Mehtas).
indiatoday.in/magazine/cover…
Now, if you have watched the #Scam1992 towards the end of the show, you will find Harshad recoding a tape and sending it to someone-that someone was Mr. Sunil Mittal, in that tape asks him to go and meet Rao's personal assistant, R.K. Khandekar and remind him of their meeting.
Well, today, Harshad remained as a scamster, but did he able to do all this alone?
Anyways, in 2006, @IndiaToday listed the 30 best letter's to their editors, one of that was:
As they say, Money is power. Money is freedom. And, wealth brings freedom--not just financial freedom, but also intellectual, emotional freedom and at time freedom from your bad past also!
Since, Money makes everything better.

Set in the 16th century, Mughal-e-Azam was a monumental film for its time. The film has exceptional production value and grand sets. But, this thread is about the incident when it was to be released in Pakistan.
Through the 1930s and the 1940s, Shapoorji Pallonji built some of Mumbai’s landmarks around the Fort area — the Hong Kong Bank, Grindlays Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Reserve Bank of India building. He also built the 'Famous Studios' at Mahalaxmi for Shiraz Ali Hakim.
Mr. Hakim was in talks with K Asif and had agreed to produce his magnum opus. But then Parttision happened and Mr. Hakim decides to leave for Pakistan. But he did match up Shapoorji with Asif and the film got started. The cast members went through significant changes.

Agroha (today's Hisar) was the capital of Agrasena, who is credited with the establishment of a kingdom of traders in North India. Agroha had 18 sub-administrative units, which later turned into 18 gotras. This translated into the surnames of the community of Agarwals in India.
Mittal is one among those. After the decline of Agroha, the majority of the Agarwals migrated towards Rajputana and Punjab. Our Mittal’s had their origin from Ambala, and in continuation of their community, their grandfather got into moneylending and shifted to Lucknow.

A few months back, many in Indian stock heard a term maybe for the first time: BAAP (Buy-at-any-price). But, then like many things in life, it had it's own history, though from the infamous NIFTY-FIFTY. Read👇
After the 1969-70 bear market in US, the conventional wisdom was formed that no one was smart enough to time the market. Hence, the "Great" companies were to be owned forever. Thus was born: NIFTY FIFTY
These were often called one-decision stocks: Buy Now and Never Sell. Because their prospects were so bright, many analysts claimed that the only direction they could go was up. So, for an investor to build long-term wealth for meeting their life goals, these were essential.

🧵In the Indian Investment circle, an often told JOKE/GYAN is, If you have forgone your love for Jockey's UG and instead opted for its stock <2 decades back>, how much more money you would have today.
But then there is much more about this brand and company running the show 👇
Samuel Cooper began making socks and undergarments. Their most famous creation was known as jockstraps (like our desi langot) which were invented to provide protection for cyclists. His son then creates the “Black Cat” label -hosieries for men, women, and children.
By 1935. Designed by an engineer Arthur Kneibler, the first men’s briefs were launched. Before Y-front, men’s undergarments were union suits/long johns and shorts similar to today’s boxers, all in the form and shape of half pants.
