Not so poetic (in fact one at all!) but here is a thread on my ordeal over last few days. Pl read n share this thread on #COVID19 #testing #healthtec and #bureaucracy . Its sad and if it could happen to me, it cld happen to anyone. You know that feeling when someone calls (1/9)
on ur cell frm the next room. It was my son n sure enough he was sick. High fever, backache. I quickly called the app company we’ve been using for Covid testing. Its called Klinik app n with a paranoid husband, travel n mom, we’ve done 20+ tests with ‘em. Many reminders (2/9)
later, by 8 pm, samples were collected frm me, Mom, Dad n son. We put Covid protocols in place n gave leave to all help etc. By night, he was throwing up and I had no choice but to attend to him. In all previous cases of using testing, v got our ‘negative’ reports in 18 hrs(3/9)
But this time, v had requested urgency because he was symptomatic n Mom is immune compromised. But results were not uploaded even after 24 hrs. It became desperate, because by now, I also had to isolate myself, leaving Mom/Dad to fend for themselves. Husband was in (4/9)
Kolkata n did not fly back, waiting for results. Next mrng again, no results. To cut it short, its now been 72 hrs since v booked tests n v dont have results. V investigated the process. Turns out Klinik app collects samples n gives to labs. Ours went to UDC Diagnostic Lab (5/9)
I have called the online no of the lab repeatedly, but no one picks up. No one at Klinik app picks up. I got a Mum doctor to explain process to me. He suspected because the lab was in Navi Mumbai, they may not b releasing the report. He has checked on ICMR site n found(6/9)
two samples against my name (me and Mom) with results showing as pending. No one knows what actually happened. Luckily, my son is recovering n the rest of us r not sick. Ash is boarding flight from Kolkata b’coz just in case Mumbai locks down frm tom! And v will get (7/9)
Fresh tests done. But I m shaken because we so trust the process. We pay whatever is asked, believe the negative reports, hope that if there is a positive sample, someone will pick it up frm the lab and call...etc etc. Looks like that may not be the case. If any of u know(8/9)
Founders/owners of Klinik app/UDC Lab, pl connect me. I found some VC circle article on their funding, but not the founders. Also i did not have the time. Healthtech is a rising sector but needs to build trust. Hope this shitty experience v had will help improve something(9/9)

I have never been given to nostalgia, but it has taken me overwhelmingly in the last few hours...like a broken dam of memories...so a thread about the girl that was, that never will be.
My earliest memory is of my great grandmother dying. I am told I was 2.5 yrs old. I do not remember her at all but I distinctly remember the shrivelled body in white in the courtyard n all the women crying. I recall the men leaving with the body and the women bidding goodbye
I recall my other great grandmother dying, but I have been told I was never there, so that is possibly where the confusion between dreams and memory started. I recall treks to tiny hills, digging 6 inches of sand to get clear water, the river swelling every monsoon,

Since this generated some interest, let me share that it took me a lot of growing up (and world travel) to start appreciating my family’s food. I say family, because just like language, there is no #Bihari food. This is the story of my grandparents n food n let me say it briefly
She was 13, raised by a young widow who had 2 daughters. No man in the house meant no proper cooking. So milk and rice was a decent meal and gur was a great dessert! He was 11, eldest son of a beautiful, arrogant, eccentric (she went stark mad when they lost the estate) woman.
His mother was known for her cooking and famously boasted that she could cook grass (we did have a lot of the glam variety, but she meant the humble grass) and the diner wld chew his fingers! They got married. He continued to get his mama’s food, she anyway got leftovers!
